I understand the numbering system. Im just curious to know why my car is numbered higher than 1494. since 1494 was the highest numbered 88.

I just bought a 1988 Mclaren Mustang. From what I understand the dash plaque numbering stopped at 1494 in 1988. However my dash plaque reads 1593. Any idea what this means? Thank you.
