To add a few cents worth on the topic - Seems more common for the internal gears to cause problems than the actual motor itself to fail. Considering it's only used for about 3 or 4 seconds at a time it seems like the motor should last a long, long time. Of course there is potentially the matter of ...

Re: asc/McLaren - 91st Best Mustang
Hey, at least the list-maker included it. I'm impressed.

Cool article, though with plenty of errors by the author. Not going to get involved in the argument of 'best ever'... blah blahhh, too subjective but I'll ...

Having seen yours I'll probably spring for a report as well. Imagine mine would read identically other than VIN, selling dealer, and build date. Agreed on the potential increase in value when it comes sale time. Most of the planet still isn't aware of these cars, or how they came to be, outside of ...

2 additional cents worth...
Just remember, unlike engine oil, an automatic trans must have the fluid level checked with the engine RUNNING! Preferably with the vehicle sitting on a completely level surface, warmed to normal operating temp, with gear selector in 'Park'. Failure to do so will give erroneous readings. Check and ...

Sandy, I could certainly be wrong but I believe the tape stripe in the photo you provided of the silver car was added by someone. Right off, it appears to be an '87 - '88 car based on the wheel style as '89-'90 were different. The true tell though is the stripe is only 1/2 height around the front ...

Couldn't help but note the irony of photographing the car in a graveyard... as you've now completed a resurrection! Congrats - well done... glad to see it back in action and looking great.

At one point ASC ran out of the Sikkens guards Red (due to the fact it was among #1 & #2 most ordered). For about a 1 WEEK PERIOD Ford's 'Vermillion' was substituted. It is UNknown (at least to me) HOW MANY were done in Vermillion, thusly I included it. (But it was very few - my guess would be less ...

Yep, it needs more volts and a surge... which is exactly what the technique I've outlined achieved. Unfortunately none of these recommendations fixes the root problem, just gets you out of a temporary jam. Pun intended. Now a bit more on that...

Paint matching
Speaking on behalf of anyone here who might also own a Red McLaren still wearing the ASC factory sprayed Sikkens paint, from personal experience I can state unequivocally that Ford's OEM 'Vermillion' is NOT a color match... but Porsche Guards Red is (thanks Sandy).

Considering how few of these cars were built during the entire production run 20+ years ago, and likely how few are left now due to general attrition, abuse, neglect, accidents, etc.... it still stuns me how often they come up for sale, and often at a very fair price to boot. Nice find there with an ...

Jammed Top Cure
Felt absolutely compelled to chime in on this one since ironically I just went through this EXACT scenario last week. Never had one lick of trouble with my top screw/motor... until it decided it just wouldn't release one day recently. It would allow me to screw it even further down (!!), but not ...

Nice car. For anyone who may care or be potentially considering the purchase of this particular McLaren, the current owner is not lying about it being an original California car. In the photo of the engine bay you can clearly see the mass airflow sensor near the airbox. In 1988 the ONLY 5.0 liter ...

Nice to know those original mats ended up in good hands. Even though they weren't for my model year, for kicks I had them and all the rest of the goodies from that particular seller watchlisted the whole week and was completely stunned what everything went for. Likely an irreplaceable find. Congrats ...
