You have to give Hank a break - he is making parts from 30+ year old molds and he admits that they need some finishing work to fit properly. At least, the parts are available!

I, too, bought a windshield molding from him and found that it would take a lot more work than I wanted to put into it, so ...

1986 Roadster - Silver/Charcoal

Car is located in Norfolk, VA. I'm asking for $20,000 for the car and extensive inventory of extra parts.

Pictures can be seen on Craigslist: 1986 ASC McLaren Convertible

I have spent a ton of time and money on this car and I am ready to move on to another project. I have also lost my storage ...

Alpine 7272 questions

My 86 convertible has an aftermarket radio in it (that is on it's way out) and I wanted to go back to the original Alpine radio. I picked up a nice one a while ago that came with an Alpine 3505 amplifier.

I'm also planning on converting my standard door panels to the deluxe panels with speakers and ...

I;m not familiar with the front apron reinforcement... I have the K-panel reinforcement (not installed) and I have installed the front shock tower (to cowl) brace. That made a HUGE difference!

I went to install the horns on my 86 roadster and had to hold off because of some questions. I picked up an NOS kit so I'm adding it to my car.

First, it looks like the 86 has to have the compressor on the passenger side because the battery is on the driver side (see Mike's pic). BUT, the horns go ...

I FINALLY got to do some sanding!

I used a grinder to get the extra superglue off (It was REALLY hard) and then used an orbital palm sander to level out the resin that had oozed everywhere. I know the top part is padded with very dense foam, but I just HAVE to make it nice and smooth. If I don't I ...

Some more updates!
I added some extra reinforcement panels on the trailing edge of the arm rests. I might add another lip to secure them, but I really just wanted to add some strength to that part of the panels.

I also added another lip ...

Speaker grills

The speaker grill panels were pretty rusty, so I soaked them in some rust eater. The picture below is what happens when you don't coat them after they soak. they rust again. I am soaking them again and will paint them as soon as they dry.

So I have glued on the metal reinforcement brackets and I have reinforced the top corners and pull-line holes.

I am adding another screw point to the top of the panels and I'm gluing some reinforcements to the back edge (towards the back of the door panel) to help reinforce the panels.

This is a ...

Rear Shock Tower brace

I ordered the rear shock tower brace before I fully understood the reinforcement that ASC did to the car. But, since I had it, I went ahead and installed it. I have an 86, so I figured ANY stiffening would make it ride better.

the cool thing is that it fits under the top and does not affect the top ...

I figured that I would reinforce the lips with metal and use resin to glue everything together. I understand that it would add weight, but it wouldn't be that much and I have just replaced the cardboard on my door panels.

Now, I could have just glued plastic to the lips and the sides around the ...

86 Door panel restoration

My car came with the standard door panels, and I wanted to upgrade. I found a pair of complete panels on eBay and snapped them up. I have a friend who does boat tops and upholstery, so I figured I could have her recover the arm rests in grey to match my car.

So. The armrests were a mess. They were ...

I saw that one, too, and entered it in the database. The body looks pretty good, but the interior and top are rough. They claim it has 34,000 miles on it, which is a joke. It has to be 134,000 since the last odometer reading was 88,000 on the Carfax report.

It looks like it has been sitting out ...
