Poor Man's ASC McLaren

I was thinking, yah I know that can be dangerous muhahaha. I would like to create a list of alternate ASC McLaren parts we can use on our cars. The benefit of this is to have other means in case Hank's supply dries up or a member simply can not afford it. In my opinion this will also promote some level of integrity of our vehicles as many people like myself cant find or afford an original part and go with something totally different aftermarket like a Saleen ground effect vs a '93 Cobra which is a near perfect match. Much has to be verified before its written in stone or rather in computer jargon a sticky. It should be kept well organized so its easy for all to navigate or add onto. Only trouble I see is compiling all the information, perhaps there is a way anyone can edit a single post? Suggestions?

We can make some categories list the ASC part and then their alts. If we have part numbers super. The more details the better. Break it down by year, model, vert or coupe. Any and all contributions to make this a group effort would be greatly appreciated. I dont mind if someone else facilitates this project I just feel that this can certainly benefit us all. The more info the more resourceful it will be. There is no way anyone of us, well aside of maybe Sandy, would know every possible match so sharing is caring lol, I am getting tired btw.

Example:

List of ASC McLaren part conversions:

87-90 ASC McLaren Mustang's

Exterior:
89-90 ASC McLaren side skirts and lower rear valance you can use 93 Cobra's in place. Note the ASC McLaren wont be embosed on the lower rear valance but if you did a side by side comparison you'd be stumped they could be twins.

Interior:
87-90 Door courtesy lights are the same as the (???) Lincolns. Sandy knows this one.

Electrical:

Pull down motor same as Cadilacs trunk motor (Sandy again knows details).

84-86 ASC McLaren Capri's

84-86 steering wheel minus the horn pad is SVO leather steering wheel.

There are so many things like the air horns, fog lights, etc...

So what do you all think? Can we do it? Do we want to do it? Do we have time to do it? lol. Maybe if it goes well next time we can do a known problems and fixes?

Ya, I agree....it's THE remembering !!! For us old people, remembering is sometimes, but not always, a stumbling block!

The Trunk Pull Down Motor is from any 1989 to 1994 deVille, Fleetwood or Sixty Special FWDCaddy.

The door Courtesy light LENS & surround is from a Lincoln Continential of the later 1980s (1985-1989)

The Wheels on 1989/90 are Enkei-81 (or 82 ~ I 4-get)

The optional seats are Recaro "N" Series BUT were trimmed specificly to/for ascMcLaren and are no longer available from Recaro.

That's all I know......

Thanks guys! I am sure this will be a blessing to people over the course of time. We dont have to dwell on this all the time but once we come across something post it. This way its more fun then work.

I have a question though. I noticed someone referencing that the 450 Mercedes Benz roof was our roof too. It sounded pretty interesting to me so I found a few on Ebay to visual inspect and it looks like it might actually be the same. Perhaps someone with a kean eye can further verify if it looks similar. I was thinking match part numbers but how many places actually have a reference to the ASC McLarens tops? Not to many at all but lets try. Hopefully if this works this will help others when restoring their cars. Imagine guys if this works perhaps we can utilize their hardtops in some fashion too? I hope someone aside of me is salivating at the thought lol.

I have been told that allthough they visually look the same, that they aren't and will not fit, nor work well ON a McLaren. I have tried for years to find out WHO made ours, but never could find out.
