It makes more sence to me, than perhaps others, as I know & understand automotive assembly line scheduling. In a nutshell, and not to be too repetitive, it all has to do with that D32 ascMcLaren code. When a company (final user {end user} is buying or I should day, ordering cars in bulk, there are several pages of codes open to them, that are NOT available to the public.)
Example:
In my years with Dodge, I worked 100s of Bids. For G.E. & Westinghouse, public utilties, Johnson & Johnson to name a thimble-full. One of them was the FBI. Now, the FBI bought 100s of base model Diplomats. However, they wanted the 50/50 split bench seat in the front. Well, that was standard equipment in th upline Diplomat SE ~ but they didn't want all the other premium items (nor the higher price) of the "SE". So, Chrysler created a CODE, just for the FBI, they put the 50/50 split bench FROM the SE into their base model Dips. In order for the FBI to pick & choose across model lines the ITEMS that they wanted, a special code was made that allowed the taboo, to be made.
Certain colors are actually OWNED, too. Westinghouse blue (a bluish-lilac); UPS Brown is an owned color, Mary Kay Pink is owned, Cutty Stark Liquer Yellow is owned, among many others.
Point here is, with ascMcLaren buying cars in bulk, a code was made FOR THEM, that being D32ascMcLaren. This permitted 100s of alterations, FACTORY made FOR ascMcLaren in the process of the build, which would be foreign to anyone except Ford internal and ascMcLaren.
I have listed some of these (I think

on the info page herein).
Example: All under the convertrible code recieved the doors from a convertible, even though they left the Ford plant as 2-Door sedans, this so there would be no framed door, when the roof was removed. Mustangs made with nothing in the rear seat area, Capri(s) too. This is why you'll see a door jamb sticker on many Capri 'Verts that says
INCOMPLETE VEHICLE. This is known as a "Z" car. A Z-car is one that is going to an aftermarket convertor, usually to become a limousine, flower car, stretch, or, in our case, a 2-seat 'Vert.
With a Z-car code, anything is permissable to satisfy the client.
It's complicated this here manufacturing process.
Ford is the most understanding to aftermarket & convertor's needs.
