Sandy,

You might want to fix your 1982 figure from 248 to 348. Total is right though

I owned a 83 Black magic 302 4 speed in late 80's lots of room in the back with the rear seats folded down  Still have the gold trx's just can't seem to part with them  Would love to find a nice stock one! Mine was stock when i bought it but like most young-in's it was far from it when i was done mods like alpine audio, built in cell phone  , dark tint, 8.8 3.73 quad shock swap rear end, svo interior, ground effects, einki wheels, true duels and headers and removed all the gold trim. Boy i miss that car had lots of great times with her and it went to crap when my buddy aquired it and had a chance to get it back years later but passed i wish i had not now  . Next one i will keep stock!

Red ones were not "Magics" The Red Ones came AFTER, and were called "Crimson Cats" ~ They lasted only 6 months, and were not repeated. 805 were made during the 6 months.

I was never very keen on the Crimson Cats. The reason was probably something you'll all laugh at but, at the time, it bothered me. The Magics were built upon the top of the line Capri of the day, while they based the Cats on the bottom of the line Capri and then added the better seats and the Cat exclusives. It alway bothered me that they switched to the entry level Capri on which to "build up" the Cat and that they began with the high series as the foundation for the Magics.

Interesting. How did the base high-end Capri differ from the low-end version? Once the Magic and Cat versions were complete, what difference was left between them as a result of their high-end v. low-end beginnings?

In a semi-related topic, it has long bugged me that the Crimson Cat did not have the cat-head logo at the front of the car, while the Magics did. If I ever get a CC, I may just have to blaspheme and put a cat-head on it.

I'm not sure I follow. From what the literature says, they pretty much started out as the same base 4cyl cars except with the special stylings. You had to add in the options on both to get up to the "top of the line" engines, etc.

Magics had the courtesy & lamp group, thicker padded door panels, and the TRX tire & wheel package, while the C.C. had those cheesy looking Cougar wheels and smaller sized tires. Magic had the Gold Cat's head outline on the front fenders, C.C. didn't.

Check your pg 92 on the price books for the 1982 Magic Standard features. There was also some differance in the exterior mirror design.
EDIT: Pass. Side Remote Control Mirror was Standard on Black Magic & Optional on Crimson Cat.

Any items that were standard equipment on a GS that were NOT altered nor deleted for a Magic came with a Magic. A C.C. carried the low level "L" model standard equipment, UNLESS an item was modified by the addition of the C.C. model.

FWIW....along these lines...

I have scanned in the 1983 ADVANCED Product Fact Book for the Capri. It has the bubble back Black Magic and no mention of the Crimson Cat.

But you could get an L equipped just like a GS. I went through all of the options found on my '83 Capri L and found it has everything a GS would have. Why someone went to the effort of equipping an L just like a GS instead of just ordering a GS will forever remain a mystery.
