Did some floor pan welding today

The 86 AOD coupe I bought came with some cracks around the rear drivers seat bolt mount. It being a nice day I pulled out the grinder and the welder. After stitching up 4 small cracks and hammerig the shape back into the floor I noticed the floor was still able to move when I stomped on it. Upon real close inspection I noted that the floor had become detached from the rocker panel on the drivers side. More grinding and welding and now all is fine. The funny part is that the car is stock with no power mods. I think this car has the most miles on it for an ASC that I have ever had. Must be well over 100K. I will be adding subframe connectors to it so this doesn't happen again. I suggest to those that drive these cars regularly especially if they auto cross or drag race they do the same.

Thats pretty common for them to crack there. I just fixed the floors on my '85 mclaren from the same thing. I actually fabbed a bracket that went around the bolt hole for the rear of the seat and then turned up the rocker panel and got welded in place. It seems to work great.

Yes this is a commen flaw on the fox body cars of that era and i believe the ssp police cars had a re-enforced bracket from ford. And later ford changed the design around 87 i think.

The floor pan cracking issue was rumored to be a recall but I have yet to find anyone who was able to get Ford to do a repair. Maybe it was more of a TSB. There are some good aftermarket reinforcements but most require to be welded in.

I was putting some bracing unerneath and of course I ran out of Argon
