About a week ago I was driving down the highway at about 70mph and the rear of the top popped open . BTW, my car is an 86' 5.0 SC.
The top was in the up/closed position. The rear pin that holds the top to the tonnau isn't broken, and seems to "grab" when closed. Does any one know what type of latch is inside the tonnau to lock to this pin? It holds pretty strong but if you pull up on it with a little pressure it opens right up. I guess between the bumpy highway and the wind speed pressure, it was enough to force the top to open. This happened a few times within a couple of miles and is frustrating and dangerous, causing me to stop on the shoulder and reclose it.

Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago on my 85. Unfortunately it ripped out the stitching at the top behind the drivers window. I guesss it's time to stop putting off getting that new top.
It appears the latching stud catches in the tonneau cover. I haven't looked at it too closely yet. It seems that sometimes it does not fully seat. There is a lip on the latching stud and I'm guessing it should be latching on that. I guess it is possible the latching stud could be bending away over time but I have not hear anyone bring that up before. Sounds like it could be adjusted.
FYI my pull down motor is not working but it latches.

Not that I'm assuming that you both were speeding, but I've always been a little leary of driving upwards of 75-ish due the design of ASC verts. My top has never done what yours have done, but there are idiosyncrasies to our car tops. They aren't 100 waterproof, some are better than others, but in a driving rain (I hope your not out in one), forget it.
Anyway, even though ASC did a pretty good job with the custom top and mechanics, its archaic compared with factory tops of the last 10 years. And I wouldn't trust mine at 80+.
