Power window moter replacment - and where to buy parts
Team Mclaren:
I have a power window on the pass side that seems to be malfunctioning.
I got power to the Red and Yellow wires that go to the Window Motor plug when I hit the up / down switch but no motor sound. I suspect the motor is bad.
Assuming a bad motor, what Ford/Merc models will fit this ? 86 Capri, 86 Mustang? Cugar/ TBird? I plan on pulling the motor out today and test further. I've also heard hiting it wih a hammer may correct the problem.
Any web sites, or after mkt experience wouold help too.
Thanks

79-93 Mustang or Capri I am pretty sure.
For the best fit get 81-93 since 79/80 were weird years for door parts.
Not sure on tbirds and such. I would pull the motor and go junkyard looking but I bet most mid 80's-early 90's Fords are going to all be the same.
Also check the gears and such. I know most people think they have a bad motor and it's the gears and such. Also, I think those motors can be rebuilt by buying a cheap rebuild kit. You might want to go look/ask over at www.foureyedpride.com.

The Bosch motors seem to have more power. Other non-labeled motors often seem to barely have enough power to raise the window. Add new dew wipes and sometimes the windows will not go up.

The Bosch motors were used over the years. I don't know it it was early or late cars. Bosch motors would be oem parts which would be a used part these days.
Besides the electric motor going bad, there are plastic cylinders in the gear box assembly that crush as a safety measure. Sometimes they crush due to age. You can get a kit to replace them for $3-$6 on ebay or the whole gear assembly for $40 at Napa. Symptom would be a skipping gear when going up or down.
