Soooo..... to summarize this, my 85 AOD CFI vert could have the finned PBF VC's if it's an early car or more likely black stamped steel w/Ford Oval? Do we have an idea of the possible cutover date range?

A previous owner put crome Moroso's on this car and it makes me sick to look at it...he also painted the intake red, that too shall be fixed.

Maybe other folks with '85 cars can check their valve covers and build dates so we can narrow this down a bit. From the prior exchange, it appears the change from the finned cast aluminum "Powered by FORD" rocker covers to the stamped steel ones was made some time between October '84 and February '85.

85 Valve Covers

Post by svo413 »

My vert. with CFI, 5.0 & auto has black stamped steel valve covers. Not sure of the buld date. I think it says 2/14 or 2/19 in yellow in on the fender. The Special Equipment list says 2/13/85 and the incomplete vehicle manual say 3/85 for VIN 612205.

"Powered by FORD"!
ALL 5 speed 5.0 1985 engines got the powered by Ford covers.

We are ONLY talking automatics here! The car in the mag article is a 5 speed!

Got a set of the Power by Ford covers, will look better than the Morosos even if it's supposed to have the stamped steel ones. I'm all about incremental upgrades. My car was modified by ASC in Feb 85....

That is correct for your car. It is a carbed 5-speed car and they all got those.
