Grill Badge

Post by Rarecat »

My 85 is missing the grill badge and I'm curious what the correct one would be. In looking through the extensive photos linked to this site, it looks like it should be either Mercury or SC 5.0

Does Hank carry either of these (didn't look like it when I shopped his website) and which one would be correct for my vert's grill?

For 85 you just get the Mercury one.

For 86, Ford didn't want the Mercury name to show on their car so they had asc cover the Mercury on the grill with a stick on badge.

You will need to hunt junkyards or ebay. You will probably have to buy a whole grill assembly to get one.

My 85 has the "5.0 SC" badge in the grill (shown below) except mine is all black no chrome. So going by what you say it must be wrong?
I found the badge for sale on Hanks website http://www.ascmclaren.com/nameplates.htm

Oh, I could be wrong on the verts. I was thinking they would be the same as the coupes.

My 85 vert has 5.0SC also on the grill, and on the trunk lid.
I always thought it was incorrect but really don't know ,I've
seen some cars with various emblems = asc mclaren, 5.0,
mercury, ect, The brochures pics in the literature section is
what I go by.

How did I miss this one ?

The 'Verts had the "MERCURY" chrome nameplate in between the grille bars, installed at FoMoCo. ascMcLaren left it there are "backing" and
affixed a

5.0 SC

over the MERCURY plaque.

COUPES got a

ascMcLaren

chrome plaque over the FoMoCo installed "MERCURY"

Oh, the 5.0 SC was also chrome

Only for 86 but not for 85. My car and I am pretty sure all other 85 coupes I have seen got the plain "Mercury" badge.

Sounds like a replacement grill, since the six-slat version was gone by '85.

For pic-hosting, I use photobucket.com. It is so easy that even I figured it out, and it's free.

Yeah, you have the wrong grill. It's a 79-82 grill. There's a good chance your car was hit in the front.

Sandy, in the first post he says he has an 85.

Grill

The Special Equipment Parts List shows the grill as E5CB-8200-BA for my 85 Vert. Not sure what that looks like but it has a 3 bar plain black one now (which looks correct).
