Hello everyone, this is my first post here, but I figured this would be a good place to start. My dad owned an "aftermarket" 82 McLaren that was available only from certain dealers around here. I'm pretty sure that it was simply an LX Mustang that the dealership had fitted with a 302, a suspension upgrade, and the McLaren body. Also of note is that it had capri tail lights, but I know it was not a Capri originally. You guys know any details about cars like that? I have some pictures somewhere, I will post them later if I can find them and get my scanner working. Any help would be appreciated...I'd like to track his car down, as it got sold a long time ago. Is there any way to find out that information by liscense plate number? I'm not sure why, but we still have one of the plates that was on that car. Thanks!

Here is the Vin for one of the 82's with the McLaren body package.
1FABP16F6CF181473 Assembly date 4/82 Color 1P Gray, ED Interior Code Red Leather, 302HO motor.
There was also a red 82 at the 40th Mustang Show at Nashville that was Red V8, and a Red one at the Last Ford Carslile Show that was also a Red V8. May have been the same car.
There was also one on e-bay not long ago but I didnt get the vin from it. I thin it was Red too.

That statement would probably get alot of flack from the Turbo 4 crowd but I have to agree with you. The car looks like a 200mph car and should have gotten a supercharged or turbocharged v8 with some really mean numbers to back up its looks.Sandy wrote:'yup, that's correct! The were the turbo-4Shoulda been a 302 V8 with a turbocharger !!

The red one is the same for all 3 sightings you listed. It has been changed slightly and I have the latest pics from a recent show but haven't posted them yet on my Fotki album.Kendal Coker wrote:Here is the Vin for one of the 82's with the McLaren body package.

M-81 McLaren
Not that anyone might care, but I came across an old listing in a stack of old Hemming's that I was throwing away last night. It was for an M-81 mclaren in Mass., I'll bet its the same car that was being discussed in 2005. In '92 they were asking $17,500 and "under 500" miles.Sandy wrote:The "Bittersweet" (Orange) one in the showroom in Mass. had 89 miles on it. The price was $23,500.00.
I just happened to flip to the page with the listing on it as I was pitching the book. I ripped the ad out if anyone is trying to track down one of these.

Re: M-81 McLaren
That one in Hemmings is mine now, the white one. It was in Great Bearington Mass, Peter DeSilva was one of the two owners at that time. The other had died. That is where I fist saw it (Hemmings) and several years later I ended up with it. It now has 820 miles. There is a small right up in Modified Mustangs Jan issue when it was at Barber motorsports Park at the MCA Show.shelbyscarab wrote:Not that anyone might care, but I came across an old listing in a stack of old Hemming's that I was throwing away last night. Love these cars! Who made the wheels for these cars and what spec are they? Would it be to much to ask if you can post pics in your photo album here? I know it may sound petty but Ive had problems trying to view pics on that other website for some reason. Thanks.Kendal Coker wrote:http://public.fotki.com/ascmclaren/ascm ... stang_m81/

PS For the past few weeks I couldnt think of were I saw the rear taillights connecting with the word "Mustang" going across it and how a rear license plate would mount, now I remember, woohoo!!!
