Auto Form Southwest Corp. in Shawnee, Ok took 250 of the 1984 Z28 models (no convertibles were made that year) and made them into Convertible two seater roadsters with the fiberglass covers over the backseat
I thought it was an interesting car.

This car has a very high reserve, Trying to work with him on the
price but he seems pretty firm. If he lower his reserve she will
have a new home, I purchased a 2/seater trans am a month ago
same color and format. Mybe I'll have twins 8)

I don't like it. It lacks professionalism in appearance.
Auto Form did some other cars that were better, but not converts. Thay are not too good on 'Verts.

Anyone recall the Chevy Celebrity EUROSPORT ? They did that...AND THAT WAS NICE !!!

I happen to like Trans Ams not as much as Mustangs but I would say my next favorite Pony car. Can you post pics of yours in your album please?

BTW Peter Muscat had also designed a convertible top for the Camaros Firebirds during the 80's.

Sure Nick, But their's one problem, For the life of me I can't figure out
how to post pic's in a thread, I email pic's all the time but this is a little
different and its probley something simple. I have ask a couple of guy's
in the asc community and gotten blown off, for what ever reason. So I
willn't keep asking its not in my nature I know its something simple. I'am
getting a brand new nice digital camera soon and I'll shoot the mclaren/
nascar GTA/ and the 2/seater T/A and put them on a disc. If you want a
early peak at it, its already posted on anther site www.firebirdgallery.com
scroll down/click on custom & tuner firebird, click on autoform corp/click
on lot#1, that red/ gray 1985 is it.

Sandy, I'am sorry these cars lacks professionalism to you, but me
personaly I love them, They are very unique and as and investment
stand point you cant go wrong you have a 2/seat roadster of the famed
Z28/Trans am. I truely think these cars one day will be worth more than
our mclaren's, but that's just me I have been wrong before.

The part that turns me off are the upper bodyside "snaps" to secure the fabric roof. Now, I know that anything can be broken into, but, the temptation to just walk up to this car and UNsnap those buttons is just too great. Sure a rotten person can take a box cutter and cut any convertible top, granted, but not everyone walks around with a box cutter. All you need to unsnap those are fingers. Some of the pre-ascMcLaren look-a-likes (Bivouac) had the same, as well. Some (not all) but some used metal snaps, and in short order they began to rust. With rust, they became impossible to "snap". Lastly *IF* the canvas roof began to shrink, there was the possibility that the "snap" could/would rip away from the material, and then become a snap that would not snap. There were better ways, even back then.
OTHER than that part, the remainder of the car(s) is nice & unique.

Have you ever noticed that people (okay, there are a few & far between) that are exceptions, but people who can buy anything they ever want and money is no object to be considered, are seldom into cars? Oh, 'ya, sure many of the famous, like Elvis and the Hip Hop stars have lots of cars....but I am not talking of them. I'm talking of the people who live near your community, in the new and fancy homes who are big business owners, lawyers, doctors, corporate engineers, Accountants, that sort of thing, seldom are ever into cars ? Ever notice that? Oh sure, they'll have an expensive car, probably leased, an so will the wife, but I am talking expensive to buy cars of the recent past.

We have a section of homes, 5 miles from mine, that sell for 2 million & up. My wife, a house-hound likes to drive thru "Bel-Air Estates" and lOOk - I lOOk too. In this development of about 75 mansions, I'd say 80% have a big 4-door Mercedes, Audi, BMW or Jag. There is a small spattering of Town Cars & various Cadillacs, and perhaps a Corvette or two. But, say a 1966 GTO, a 1967 Mustang GT, a Classic 1967 DeVille Convertible, a 1960s Imperial, an original Olds Toronado and so forth......... NEVER !

Those cars are in another section, and are dhow quality and are parked in the so so area, where the workers of the above people live.

Hi all,
I was watching the Barrett Jackson Palm Beach Auction over the weekend and saw a Trans Am with a similar conversion to it. The tonneu was exactly the same as the one on the Camaro. Sorry I don't remember who the did the the conversion but maybe someone will see a rerun from the show and give so more input.
