Valve Covers

Post by mark@ddi »

My new 85 Capri Convertible has "Ford Motor Sports" valve covers.

Would this be correct?

I found receipts for a valve job and I wonder if they were switched. They did have the wrong valve cover gaskets and I have had them replaced.

What is the horsepower on the 5.0l in 85?

Can you find owner's manuals for these cars?

Thanks

Mark

I believe 85's should have finned valve covers with "Powered by Ford" text. Also the HP for 85's was 210

EDIT: Stick cars were 210...The auto CFI cars has less HP...not sure of that # though.

Automatic cars got CFI and it was like 180hp. I am not sure exactly what CFI cars got for the valve covers but I think they were Powered By Ford ones like the carbed cars were.

CFI cars in 85 also were non-roller motors.

Great site to reference is:

http://www.mustanggt.org/realone.htm

http://www.mustanggt.org/year.htm

http://www.mustanggt.org/gtengine.htm
Engine Info
Year Engine Tranny HP TQ Rating Induction Comp Ratio VIN Code (8th digit)
1985 5.0L V8 5-speed T-5 210 @ 4400 270 @ 3200 4V carb 8.4:1 M
1985 5.0L V8 4-speed AOD 4 180 @ 4200 260 @ 2600 CFI 5 8.4:1 M

Regarding proper valve cover there is also a link to pictures for each year but I wouldnt trust that as it could have been changed by the owner. IMO go on Ebay or someplace that specializes in brochures for the year in question ('85). See if there are any pics of the valve covers in there. Hope this helps.
