Are our cars black balled?

The reason I pose this question is that over the years, I have seen several magazines and books written by mustang guru's who mention just about every special edition mustang imaginable, even those with production numbers far lower than ours. Also, cars that have far less modifications than ours. I think whatever happened between Muscat and ASC has something to do with it. It's like Ford has the power to let you live or to kill you, if you are a product... My feeling is that someone has made a career out of down playing the beauty and significance of our cars. In essence, killing them. I think we need to start making a true effort to get our hands on every one of them out there to control the market of these cars, or else, we are going to have several fictional "Sandy" stories come to reality. I honestly think that value will come if we could dry the market out a little. It has to become a basic economic issue, supply and demand. On another note, the reason I have begun to build the 351 windsor, 6 speed car, independent rear suspension is to see what press is generated. I want to know if the "no respect" issue that we deal with is still going to be there is a 500 hp car that appears OEM and smog legal. I am seriously considering an all aluminum block from World Products now. I currently have a new lightning 351, but I really want to see what type of press we can get in our community for a one off car, that appears OEM less a few custom modifications. The car would be 300 pounds lighter in the front with the block, heads, and the fiberglass Cervini SVO style hood, no cowl. Which would do wonders for handling. Guys, your thoughts are of interest to me. While I am mostly a purist, I am a speed demon and love having things that no one else has. From what I see in the GNX'x, the 87 Nationals, the 89 Turbo Trans Ams, the Firehawk's, the Newer 442's, the Saleen's & Roush's, the few SAAC cars, the SSP Mustangs, the 93 Cobra's, etc. Something is going on. I think a fair price for a clean 87-88 ASC should be somewhere around 15-17k, and the 89-90's should be between 17-23k, considering what they originally sold for and what other specialty cars of similar year and production numbers. I bought my cars because I love them. However,
I would love to get some return on investment. It cost a ton to store them properly.

The reason is that all of the other converted Capris and Mustangs have power & performance enhancements, which is what sells those mags to the 15 Y.O. set. Go fast mentallity. Our cars have bone stock trannys, gears and engines, so they have little to write about. Out car have appeared in other car mags where the readership is a bit more mature, and alot more selective. Among them are Car Collector, Collectible Automobile, Classic Cars, and, Collectible Classics.

I was following your posting in regards to the way our cars get into the hands of non collector's and unknowing young people and they just tear them down. It's like they will all continue to erode if there is no price standard set. We need to have a nice big warehouse to keep our cars!

I do understand on the performance enhancements as a partial explanation, however, early Saleens had very little done to them performance wise. The magazines spend a great deal of time discussing the 7 up car, the SVO and even the variations of the 4 cylinder turbo 84 mustang, and others that were just mustangs. What bothers me is that I have ran across quite a few articles from very well read and researched mustang writer's and the Mclaren's were left out and the other mustangs were included. It's like disrespect. A great deal of the cars were only limited editions based on color and get more respect than the Mclaren's, hence the 7 up car, the all white 93, the yellow mustang. Nothing was all that about these models other than a color and some pony wheels. Regardless of what they say, the Mclaren Mustang's are my first love. The first one I saw was the red, tan and tan. It was like Daaaaaammmmmnnnn! What is that! I am a huge fan of the 89 and 90's. I love the pre-cobra ground effects So, I can appreciate being listed in some magazines, but I will never like being left out of basic mustang coverage when all others are represented. It's like a form of step child treatment. That is why I asked if we were being black balled. If World products do not want more than 4k for the block i'm on it. I have an offer on the table for my motor for $2900. (351 Lightning) I love and respect your enthusiasm and interest in these cars and I love being apart of this group!!!! We have quite a few good people in here.

I do agree with the point you make, and I cannot offer an explanation. I too have noticed it, but again, have no clue as to the obvious omissions. Another reason may be the different name (i.e. ascMcLaren) -or- the many who do not know of the cars. Perhaps the author themselves have not enough knowledge to write a 3 or 4 page special on them. Don't lose sleep over it. Enjoy this site and your car, and preserve yours as best you can.
Having been in the hardest business on earth for 27 years (selling cars) and the most thankless job with medocre pay, I can tell you that no matter how much the consumer whines 'n whales like a pig, about the price, most will step up to the plate and "find" the money for a really well kept beautiful car. The public is dumb, but they are not stupid!
