Recaros

Post by midman »

Hi Scott,

OK I see, yes mine are in an 88. I had no idea there was such a quality difference between the early and late Recaros

Recovered Recaro seats

Post by svo413 »

I posted pictures in the Album under the 85 vert. Not sure how to post them here or link them. I still need to rewire the heater and lumbar pump. Everything was working before they came apart. The wiring to the heaters looked pretty poor at first. I hate the use of crimped butt splices. The wires has so many splices and most were OEM I think. The OEM butt splice crimps proved to be very good quality but I still have to question how it was done. I think I counted 8 splices from the seat cushin to the switch and the wires were smaller than the large feed wire.

Bought a new top

Post by svo413 »

Well, I Bought a new top and got it from Henry. Just a quick glance showed some differences. The inside is black and the outside is Tan. The old one was tan on both which means a single layer fabric. The rear windows had single stitching and embossed print on one window. Looks to be made in 1988. Now I just need to find someone to put it on. I have 2 possibilities but neither one thrill me.

So your old one was aftermarket?

Good to know those differences. Sounds like Henry's are definitely better made.

New Top

Post by svo413 »

Just dropped off the vert. for a new top installation today. I did end up getting one of Henry's tops. The hard part was finding someone who had any experience putting these tops on. One shop had 12 people out looking at the car and was still guessing. I found a local guy that did one a few years ago and he noted the similarities with the 450 Mercedes. This was a bit more of a high end shop. Let's see Bentley, Rolls and Porsche were just a few brands in the shop. I'll post photos when it's done.

But I will be replacing the top with the real deal from Henry.
