Radio Removal on '87 Mclaren
Can anyone enlighten me on how to remove the factory radio from the dashboard? I've taken off the AC/fan cover plate but that didn't help. Thanks in advance.
You need a tool to release the tabs holding it in. You'll see the 2 holes on each side of the radio....I used a shirt hanger cut down. Also, there is a bracket behind the dash that mounts to the back of the radio...I think...think it's a 10mm socket...
You can see the holes in this pic.

Radio Removal from '87 Mclaren
Hi Mike,
You were correct about the 10mm nut on the back of the radio....I removed and also tried sticking in the hanger into the holes on either side of the radio and still cannot get it out. Anyone have any other suggestions? Or maybe I didn't have a large enough hanger...should I be pushing it into all the holes all at the same time?

You may also have to Pull the U-shape bent wires in towards center of radio and pull out at the same time.

Sorry in addition to what I said Mike and plumkrazy are correct. All 4 at once and pull them in towards the center...you have to play with it to get it just right.

Thanks Mike and Plumcrazy! I'll try it tomorrow.
Plumcrazy...I used to live in Farmington Hills for the last 25 years until we retired to Sarasota, Florida in 2005. Did go to the Dream Cruise this last August. Boy, I sure miss being able to be in that wonderful event since we've moved south!
Went up to Odessa yesterday just north of Tampa, to pick up a part for my car from Henry at "Paradise Motors"! WOW! Does he have lots of parts and McLarens! I asked him how many he owned and he said he didn't even know!!!!!! Saw 7 just out in the open!
