Car shipping question

Post by ckj »

Hi all. I'm going to be picking up a car in the next few weeks and will be trailering it back to my house. The trip is 2k miles each way and I'll have an open air Uhaul trailer. I'd like to put a car cover on the car, any recommendations? I don't want to use a tarp and risk scratching the paint finish, so it's got to be soft! I'm also going to have to be able to get my hands on it this week, so no custom covers.

Yes I'm picking up a new McLaren... :)

I personaly would not transport one on an open trailer with cover on it the cover will beat the paint and pull at trim.

Yeah. No cover. It will beat the snot out of the car.

If you can get ahold of that new car plastic laminate (no idea what it's called), I'd do that. You see it on all the new cars on the big carriers. Its white and they put sheets of it on all the top surfaces.

Anybody find a link?

I know they also have this stuff for boats. HUUUUGE sheets of the stuff that you use a heat gun to shrinkwrap the entire top half of the boat. My cousins (who own a boat biz) sell that stuff.

Its for storage, looks way sturdy but I am unsure how it would fare ging along at 75mph.

If the ENTIRE car was well covered...I think it would be ok...but you just never know with that 75MPH wind whipping at it for days.

If it were me and good paint and pretty I would go the extra mile and rent an inclosed trailer and you would be safe from the weather and the rocks thrown by your vehile and passing vehilcles. Just what I would do. larry

Unfortunately I can't locate a place or anyone in Phoenix that will rent an enclosed trailer. I don't have the funds to buy one either.
