Yes you are probably right. Shelby use to do the same. It happen with low production hand made cars. Lots of differences.

Yes I will verify that too. I spotted another clue, my dash heater control is a little different from other cars I've seen. Mine have a Ford logo wich no other have and the face is a little different too. I suspect that because it is a dealer kit.

Oh 'ya, that's definately a Non-Air car face plate. Sorry, I cannot explain. To further clearify a couple things:-
1. ascMcLaren I have been told by ascMcLaren management SAVED MONEY thru breaks & incentives from FoMoCo on each unit by ordering a "Pre-Spec" unit, (D32), which sped the unit thru the dearborn plant, allowed them to be "Batch-Made" and even made shipping easier!
2. You can totally rule out "Picking one out of stock or off any factory lot." Not to happen! This car in question may have been ordered with A/C DELETE code, THAT is a possibility, allthough rare. If so, it was still batch made.
3. Antennas. FoMoCo supplied to ascMcLaren NON HOLE front right fenders, AT THE BEGINNING (1984/1985). ascMcLaren used the black rubber rear driver mount european style flexable antenna, and for a period of time (short) offered an optional power antenna to replace the euro black rubber antenna. Then, (for reasons unknown) FoMoCo stopped supplying front fenders with no hole and either FoMoCo OR ascMcLaren began filling in the hole with body filler, and continuing the flex black rubber antenna on the driver rear fender. When the 1987 Mustang version came along, ascMcLaren had enough and just let FoMoCo supply the regular front fender metal antenna.
The rarest and most desirable unit would be a unit with the optional power antenna and a front fender without body filler, thusly a supplied No Hole fender.

Further making me believe it was an A/C DELETE car. If so, this car would have been ordered by the original buyer, thru a dealer with A/C delete AND as an ascMcLaren Convert. That way, there would be 2 directive codes and as far as I know they were compatable together.
It MAY have required a phone call for asc to Dearborn to point it out, since A/C was included in the build, but an A/C Delete code would override & take preferance.

57D was the code for A/C DELETE. The owner herein, should check his build plate for a 57D code.
Yes, Mike, I do realize that it was a normal option .... howver D32 INCLUDED that option, theyby making it standard equipment ON THAT BUILD (ascMcLaren), so to achieve DELETE status, and have the A/C NOT included, the 57D would dominate.
Yes, I worked at a Ford Dealer and worked in Fleet. There are a gazillion unknown fleet codes. If you are a multi unit buyer and you want NO headlights they will assign a code to Headlight - DELETE and build them for you !

The only difference would be a substantially longer wait for a non Air car. The "mules" all parked outdoors at ascMcLaren - all had A/C as part of the D32 code, just as they also had non-standard Pwr. Windows. So, ascMcLaren would have had to order 1 unit without A/C, but with he D32 code, with his choice of interior color. All of the rest would be a normal D32 code spec. but his transmission choice would also need to be noted.
Allthough many times it looks like ascMcLaren was a bit mixed up in their doings, in reality, they pretty much had a good grip on things. Their problems were not so much with the ultimate buyer, but with dealer-relations. They kept biting the hand that was feeding them. The release & pull doen of that big screw on the 'vert top and the motor that released & pulled it down was (and is) prone to mal-fuction, causing angry owners.
The key to this (not having problems) is to NEVER EVER holdthe button to the end when putting up the top. Always to leave a little room under the roof material and the tonneau cover at the back of the roof (by the pull down screw, SOooo if it don't work (freeezes) you can go the oppisite way to free it up. The folks who have problems are the ones that hold that button until the top is all the way down, nice & tight, against the tonneau. NEVER DO THAT ! Alway leave enough room to roll a cigarette under the back bow, next to thebig screw and into the car. Climate changes, humidity and dampness tend to freeze the motor, in the releasing of the top. IF IF IF a person has left just a bit of travel in the other direction, and they then can push the button the OTHER way, that will free up the worm gear and she will work.
