What are the black buttons to the immediate right of the shifter on the black plastic for ? I do not believe that I have ever seen them before.

Looks to be the power mirror switch.

AHhhhhh, see. For 1989/1990 it's different! No 1987s had it and very very few 1988s. Not used to seeing it on an '88

This is very strange. It has the makings of the '87 center console with the cigarette lighter and ashtray, then it missplaces the power mirrors onto the shifter bezzle. I wonder if this was done with only a few cars until they decided how they wanted to arange things? Mine is located right behind the larger ashtray that houses the cigarette lighter inside. I just went out to the garage to investigate.

Your car is looking good though.
