Glad to hear your spirits are up Sandy!

As many of you already know, my wife (Kristy) has Multiple Sclerosis. She gives herself a shot every other day, and frequently feels ill effects from it. She also has a myriad of difficulties from the MS, including fatigue, balance issues, etc.

She also cannot pee. Because of this she must catheterize. Oddly however, if she gets an infection, she pees herself. Now, I wouldn't put this out there except for the fact that she talks about it to just about anyone who cares to hear it.

She also laughs at these little mishaps. A lot!

In fact, she has such a great attitude that, in a presentation I am putting together to be given to local groups (Rotary, etc). One of my headings is "You can learn a lot from a woman who wets her pants."

Keep your spirits high Sandy, we will all keep you in our prayers!

Oh, Bill - I am so sorry to learn of Kristy's health issue. We humans do not, can not or even imagine another person's health problems, UNTIL we have our own. Sometimes just talking about it, helps us deal with it...better.

My Mother used to say, "When I was young I was broke. I saw so many with so much, & I had just the absolute minimum, but I was healthy.
Now, I have much, but my health is poor. It's better to be poor & healthy".

I now understand.

No worries Sandy... she laughs at things I know would make me cry. My wife is my biggest hero and my life has improved in so many unimaginable ways since we met and married.

Here's a story you will appreciate:

I got a call one evening, and when I answered I discovered my wife on the other end. She was laughing, and I mean laughing hard.

Anyway, I asked her what was so funny, and she replied, "here's a question that probably doesn't come up to often, but... if you've just wet your pants, is it still safe to use the heated seats in the car?"

Hey Sandy I thought this was going to turn into a joke at first, A Rabbi walks in.... then a Preist.... lol. Here are some examples I found on the net, perhaps will put a smile on your face.

A Rabbi and a Priest buy a car together and it's being stored at the Priest's house. One day the Rabbi goes over to use the car and he sees him sprinkling water on it. The Rabbi asked, ''What are you doing?'' The Priest responded, ''I'm blessing the car.'' So the Rabbi said ''Okay, since we're doing that....'' and takes out a hacksaw and cuts two inches off the tail pipe.

A rabbi and a priest get into a car accident and it's a bad one. Both cars are totally demolished, but amazingly, neither are hurt. They crawl out of their cars and the rabbi sees the priest's collar and says, "So you're a priest. I'm a rabbi. Just look at our cars. There's nothing left but we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God. God must have meant that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace the rest of our days." And the priest said, "I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God."

And the rabbi said, "and look at this. Here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of Mogen David wine didn't break, surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune. And so he handed the bottle to the priest. The priest said he agreed, took a few big swigs, and handed the bottle back to the rabbi. The rabbi took the bottle, didn't drink at all, put the cap on, and handed it back to the priest. The priest asked, "aren't you going to have any?" And the rabbi replied, "No . . . I think I'll just wait for the police."

One more Rabbi joke couldn't resist this one.

A man in a synagogue: “Rabbi, what should I do? My son has converted to Christianity.”
“I don't know”, answers the rabbi. “Come back tomorrow, and I'll ask advice from God.”
The man comes back the next day.
“I can't help you”, says the rabbi. “God told me he has the same problem”.

Hi Bill, sorry to hear about this. How long has she been diagnosed with this condition? What does she do for a coping mechanism? I will keep her in my prayers. God Bless.

I will reply to your PM a little later as I am goofing off on company time at the moment!

As for coping, somehow we (both she and I) just do our best to recognize that we have little control over what MS does to her, while we do have control over the ways in which we react. Realizing of course that we still have our down times when MS becomes just a little too obvious (if you will). Another thing is to learn to laugh at what should make you cry.

In the end, I think much of it woes to an attitude of sorts that I believe is best reflected with a line from the movie Tombstone. If you'll recall, Doc Holiday asked Wyatt Earp "what did you ever want out of life?" to which Wyatt replies "I don't know Doc, just a normal life I guess." Then the truth comes when Doc replies "there is no such thing as a normal life Wyatt. There is just life, and you get on with it."

Well, there is only "life," and you have two choices. You can continue on with it, or you can die. Now, the "you can die" part doesn't need to mean literally, it can be more of just fading into yourself. Worse, most people are already oblivious and therefore only wake up once health or circumstance have caused them to do so. As John Muir said, "Most people are on the world, not in it i having no conscious sympathy or relationship to anything about them - undiffused, separate, and rigidly alone like marbles of polished stone, touching but separate."

Oy Vey, all this sickness is weighing heavy on me. When I go to the hospital, I walk the halls, and see such human suffering a and it's terrible.

Okay, it's a vast ... no, huge gigantic hospital, so 'ya there's alot of people there. It depresses me - at least i go and am there 5 hours and then go home. Some of these people will never go back home, again.

I see so many Priests, Rabbis, and other clergy. They do what they can, but they cannot heal the very very ill.

Well, i am doing exceptionally well. My bad numbers have really really responded and have dropped from 161 to a current 17 Damn!

The food there, is horrid. But the deserts are very very good.

I have 2 more visits to go, or 10 hours. I may be done by July 30.

Bill, I agree with what you have to say it makes allot of sense. We all have our own perception of how we think life is supposed to be whether it be the statistical 2.3 kids, perfect spouse, white picket fence, everyone growing up to become Doctors or lawyers. Well the truth is look at the neglected children, the divorce rates, and foreclosures. Oh and the world needs ditch diggers too, lol thats a quote from Caddyshack. Sad that most people have to lose something in order to appreciate it. One last thing. I used to always work so hard to try and get ahead until my health brought that to a screaching halt. I can have a pitty party trying to be the old me or learn the beautiful lessons from such experiences like moderation, becoming comfortable with who I am and what I have. Life is like riding a bicycle, sometimes you pedal sometimes you coast, In other words its not all work, you still get to your destination more enjoyable too. God Bless.

Sandy I am so happy to hear the good news! I am curious what are the numbers relating to? Is it white blood cell counts? I have no clue but glad to see its getting much better and you are doing well.

It isn't.

Cancer was discovered last November. At 225 you are dead. I entered the hospital with internal bleeding. My Colon Cancer at 191 and climbing.

After 150 hours of Chemo I dropped to 90. After the next 3 sessions ( another 150 hours and very very very very sick from it, I dropped to 60 !! After another 150 hours and even sicker, I dropped to 40 ! After the next 150 hours. I dropped to my present # of 17 ! No human can go below 5. Five is THE lowest ! I have 12 to go, and still have 98 hours to go.
My Dr is the head of the Cancer Unit in one of the largest hospital Cancer Centers in Northern N.J. He says I have (almost) set records for recovery.
He believes that I will be in total remission by August 1st.
I have been dealing with this since LAST OCTOBER (2007). I also had a 3 hour & 7 minute surgery, that I recovered 100% from. (That was November 19th, past).
I quit smoking cigars Last August. Soon as I quit, I got sick.

In case ya didn't notice, I am off the site every other Wednesday all day long. Hospital Day.

Chemo is REALLY >>> NO >> REALLY rough !!
It reaches out & touchs (almost) every facet of your body, & play havic with it.

But, i have kept a really good outlook, and don't talk about it very much, until tonite and THAT only because I am doing so good.
Also, I have (oddly for me) kept an excellent attitude & outlook on stuff.
Also, because I trust my Dr.(s). I have 3.
I got Rabbis coming in & Priests to see me, when I am there, as well as some sweeeeet nurses. (and one nasty 'itch, too).
My wonderful wife goes with me, and bring me snacks to munch on from the cafeteria and I have a beautiful room - mahogany paneled with a nice view of the helipad and I watch the hellicopters come & go. They land & take off straight up & down. I have a stereo set-up in the room with DVDs and CDs & cassettes and my own pot of coffee than I can make at any time, and a small fridge. Prertty darn good. I also have computer access and have posted here - from there.

So, life, pizza, wife & son, McLarens and Corn Beef & Pastrami on rye with 'turd and 'slaw with an R/C Cola keep me going, as well as my Rabbi Mosche Schottenstein and my Priest Father Douglas Boyle.

OH....P/S My Rabbi owns a Saleen Convertible (2005) Triple black, 5-Speed with a PROformsnce (?) Supercharger on it. (But... to synagogue, he drives an Impala - I think he said a 2000.

I also lost 66 pounds, down from 263 to 197. My wife said that it's much better for me to weigh 197, than 263, since I am 5' 10"". She got mad at me when I replied,. "....and it's much better for my leather seats!"
