I was riding my motorcycle past an auto-upolstery shop when I saw a mclaren through the gates I stopped in to ask about the car and he told me it was for sale. The door tag said 3/87. The top had been repaired once..(vinyl). The shop is going to put a cloth top on and recover the seats. seats were black leather without the words asc in them. everything else said mclaren...horn, doors. his door panels did not look like my 89 door panels. last # of vin are169718. i think the plaque said 246

could it be 146? If you look at the CUN sequence it would make sense with 146 but 246 is out of actual sequence.

169718 is a 1987, in ascMcLaren Red, with Sand Beige Interior and the Tan roof. Arrived at ascMcLaren on April 3rd 1987 and was shipped out on July 14th. Conversion took place on the 23rd of April.
It was the 118th 1987 converted, out of the 479.
Dash Plaque shoulda been 118. But, as we know, most 1987 & 1988 are all wrong. Series II - the 1989 & 1990 are 99% of the time correct.

As I assume that you know, "Ebony Black" was introduced for 1990. It's interior has been painted, or switched. It was Sand Beige, like that seat belt part that you noted.

I have not had a chance to go back. but I will bo back today 6-26-08 and see if the car is still there. If not I will have the shop owner call the car owner again.

I talked to the owner thursday and he said that he wants 6,500.00 for the car. He said that the engine and trans have been rebuilt. It has aftermarket headers and flow masters. He has ordered a new cloth top which the shop owner will install, but if he has the top installed the price goes up. I think that it is an 87. I have add pic in my album. I tried to upload them but it said they were too big.
