I got hit

Post by Havoc »

:( I was out last weekend as it was a great day to go for a ride with the top down. I was sitting at a red light and a car behind me was not paying attention and rearended the car. the bottem skirt, the bumper and the exhaust was damaged and somehow the left fender bowed out a bit.

Right now I'm looking about $2,300- ( she wasnt insured.....)

The issue we have right now is that the bodyshop is having trouble finding the reinforcement bumper that sits behind the rear facia (Bumbper). Can anyone confirm that this is the same as the mustang?

Same as 79-86 Mustang and Capri.

You may need to get the frame pulled if your front fender was bent by a rearend. I am 99% sure your frame is bent.

The lady behind you wasn't insured?

no... So mine has to pick it up.
yea the fender and where the door meets is bubbled out just a bit. (made a gap). I'm hoping its the door going into fender. My molding moved on the door moved as well.

The lady had a brand new saturn that she purchased earlier this year( looked alot worse than the ASC). She had a ins card at the scene but after beginning the claim process we found out she has not paid a premium since march. So my uninsured motor will have to repair the car.

I'm pretty sure the door going into the fender would mean the frame got bent. The car definitely needs to be checked. The force of the impact travels the entire length of the car.

Take no less than $8k. Tell them you can prove its worth that much.

Its very very rare. Sandy can probably provide you with an affidavit that the car is worth that.

Don't let them try and tell you the car is worth as much as a regular 86 Capri. It isn't.

Yea I went around with them about that earlier in the week. I really do not want it totaled so I will have the frame checked. They do know its worth more. Mine was (is) in really good shape and it only has 70k miles on it. If I need something I will def hit Sandy up.

Sandy has said it time and time again. Get AGREED VALUE insurance!

Then this is never an issue. You and Grundy or whoever agree up front its worth $10k or whatever.

Hope you get it straightened out but consider going with Grundy or one of the other collector car insurance companies.

Grundy is THE best!

What happened to you - - is MY greatest fear & WHY my cars seldom go out.
RememberI am in Jersey, the world capitol of Toyopets and honDUHS and every single driver, thereof is ON THE PHONE the entire time they are driving. ALL and I mean ALL of their accidents are hitting the car in front of them, usually at red lights.
Go to NADA on the web, go to values, go to specialty cars & you'll find our cars. They are higher than the kiddie books the insurance companies use.
They might have your car as high as $8,500 - at one it was, check it out.

If they tell you they want to total it - you act like you just found out that Santa Claus is real !   and reply, thusly...." OH, NO, that would not be acceptable to me, definately not, no way, no how."

This makes them think that you just might go to court, and they bend over backwards to keep outta court, as they lose more $$$$ that way and they usually lose !!
Once you hear a higher offer, from them, higher than the original total it out offer, you know they have opened it up for neogoations. (spelt wrong, I know)
and then ya gotta work them. I am not a licensed appraiser so, a note from me, means diddly squat!

After it's all over, get GRUNDY.
I pay $450 @ year for all 3 of my McLarens and each are listed at $12,000 for total loss and dollar-to-dollar for repairs after a $700.00 deductable.

Good Luck, and I am sorry this happened to you !
:( I do feel your pain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice. I didint even know there was such a thing. If everything clears out then I will checkout GRUNDY. I have had three dif body shops look it over so I will have my fingers crossed about the frame. On the outside it realy doesnt look that bad. I'm suprised it didint do more damage than what it did she was doing 35 mph before she realized that I was stoped at a red light.

I truly love my car and feel blessed that I got it in the shape that it was in. I just moved down here (TN) from OHIO and this has been a bright spot of my move.
Funny thing about the Fender is that they were questioning it as if it was even part of the accident.

To my understanding is that my ins (Nationwide) will go after here for the cost of repairs and with TN state law she should lose her DL.

Sorry about your car Havoc - they should take away her DL.

On the subject of Grundy, I don't have it, but based on Havoc's experience, I feel as though I should.

Not really familiar w/ how agreed value insurance works...Any advice from anyone on what agreed value should I insure mine for? 85 convertible w/ 90,000+ miles
