1985 loudspeakers

I´m just fixing the audio system.
What kind of speakers was in 1985 convertible in the seats?
Was the speakers 4 ohm or 8 ohm?
The speakers are still there in the seats but I only need to know the ohms!
The owner before me have change everything else and I`ll try to fix it back
like it was, almost.
I think the original system was Alpine?

Yes, the original head unit was Alpine. (some did have the KRC-2001).

The Alpine was a post style 7267 I believe.

The speakers were 6" Kenwoods for the rear with square speaker covers. I have a pair of the speakers for free (no covers). PM me if interested.

The speakers in the headrests should be marked on the back. Have you had them out yet? Determining impedance of speakers is not straight forward. It would be best to determine who made them, the model number and maybe we could look it up. Most car speakers are 4ohm. (at least the ones back in the 80's). The head unit (radio) will tell you the impedance it wants so in any event, you should buy replacement speakers to match the head unit requirements.

I dont have a master unit. The owner before me have changed it!
There was somekind of Pioner or ? unit when I bought the car.
The door speakers are changed but I have bought a new ones.

Yes I think the speakers in the headrest are 4 ohm. These speakers are still there and I dont want to open the headrest because these speakers are working. I made a test two hours ago!

The owner before me trough away the original master units (power units, radio etc) and the original 5,25" door speakers.

We have working all day with this project and now we maybe know something about this audio system. We also got help from the Alpine dealer in Helsinki and he is going to make a plan for us what kind of system we can build there. I´ll like keep it like it was but I´ll like also CD records, iPhone and good sounds and thatswhy we must little change it but keep the same idea like it was in 1985!

The verts had door speakers?

Didn't they also have speakers behind the seats? Or did the verts without door speakers only have speakers behind the seats in the rear area?

In my cars there is a factory hole for speakers 5,25 inches at the door.
I have also the the holes for speakers behind the seats and it is bigger than 5,25 and these holes looks likes factory holes but I,m not sure for that.
Also...I have speakers into the dash. One in the middle and both sides.
Also...two speakers into the both headrest.
So.... I have place for eleven speakers??????...and that is somekind of problem.
The owner before me used only four speakers. The door speakers and the speakers behind the seats.
....and he used somekind of aftermarket radio...maybe pioneer. In that radio there is only outputs for four speakers and he have cut the other cables...and that is not very clever if you think about me.

You don't have a center speaker. No such thing. You might have the alpine amp or the stock Capri amp in the center location. Remove the dash pad and you will see.

So you have 10 speakers total.

None of the old radios has that many outputs. I would assume that asc wired a bunch of speakers together to the outputs. Which ones I have no idea. A vert owner should speak up.

The speaker locations you have all sound stock.

The center speaker? I have not look inside yet. I´ll check it tomorrow!
The old cables go upside to the dash and I cant remember how many cables there is....I´ll check it tomorrow..
Anyway...like I said, very interesting!

Ford removed the center speaker around 1981.

They put in an amp in place of the speaker for those who ordered premium sound. When asc got the verts, they put a small amp there...it was an alpine amp. You might still have it there. I have a new one of them and tried it and it seems to put out no more power than the radio.

I do have that Alpine radio (new), the small small Alpine amp (new) and a used set of the rear speakers.

I have the manuals for them too. I can probably get you info about them if you need it.

The 1985 Verts came with Kenwood or rarely Alpine head units. The speakers in the headrests are 4 ohm 3.5" I think no name (at least I coudn't tell a brand or model # from the ones I took out of my old convertible)

There should be speakers in both doors, 2 under the dash pad and 4 in the headrests. No speakers in the back at all. Great spot for some though.

From the 85 verts I have seen still with the original radio, they had the Alpine post radio. Haven't seen one with the Kenwood...although I have heard of them.

Ponydude's 85 had the original Alpine in it. I gave him a good used replacement since his car had been through a flood.

In late 85 I could see them switching a few cars to the DIN style Alpine as that's what they used in 1986.

Yes, the back speakers was made by owner before me.
Anyway I must use also these back speakers because there is
a big hole if I take them off.
