88 mclaren wheels gold
why? because if you have an ascmclaren wouldent you want the wheel to say ascmclaren? im not sure if msw sold the wheels to anyone other then asc. but sure seems to be alot of them around.
i also like the look of the flush center hun on the asc wheel over the msw wheel.
this is all just my opinion...

Peter, on Hanks site, the 87-88 gold wheels do not say asc on them. They all say MSW.

I don't think they said asc after 86 or 87 when they switched to the new style.

I believe that
1) They were all made by MSW
2) Initial run to get the contract from ASC featured ASC on the rim as an insentive to win the bid.
3) Later manufacturing was stamped MSW
4) I have seen '88s WITH and withOUT ascMcLaren on the rim, & been
told by owner(s) that they were the OEMs supplied with the car when they bought it new !! So...It looks like the supply ran out in the early part (first 1/3rd) of 1988 M.Y. production.
1984-1987 and like 1/3rd of 1988s.
I too, if given a choice would take ther ASCMcLaren stamping, as it's just cooler, but in the grand scheme of things, it really only matters to the car's owner.

I always thought the the C. Cat shoulda had the black bodyside moulding in the red to match the paint, the horizontial grille bars gold, rather than chrome and the MSW Gold ascMcLaren rims. Never thought that the Cougar wheel looked "right" on the car. Crimson Cat and Black Magic & White Lightening - when ordered WITH the "Appearance Protection Package" included a set (2) of plastic license plate frames, that were spray painted bright gold. Over time they faded and ultimately the gold was no more. I found one totally faded, but in very good condition on a car in a used car lot, a friend owned and another on a trade in Cougar from the time frame. Sanded them down, to removed minor abrasions and a few left over "spots" of dull gold, and resprayed them in 100% matching orange, to the decals & rims, and they are on my coupe. Looks 100% ascMcLaren "factory" !!
