how to manually operate/open the bow/convertable top?

I just boughta 1984 Capri Mclaren SC 41,000 orginal miles.

I can not get the top to latch into the hard cover. any suggestions

The spring inside the tonneau latch can be damage or missing or misplaced and the cam does not come back to its open position and for this reason the top hook can't go down completely to be held by the cam wich is operated by a lever when you close the tonneau cover.

the latch will go all the way down but will not latch

The switch behind the driver seat does not seem to work. I have to pull the cord to unlatch the cover

Where is the fuse box? It show to be on the left side of dash but it is not there?

I have a lot to learn.

I work on classic boats, but not much on cars

This cat really runs well. I smoked a nissian yesterday & really surpised them

It is under the cover plate. Which is centered under the steering wheel and held in place by 2 phillips screws.

.Many of us,here saw your car go thru the auction last year, on TV. She is Red...Yes? Tan interior & top.

1984 was the 1st year, and a mere 50 were made !

35 in ascMcLaren Red (Really Porsche Guards Red)
10 in White
5 in Black

The Black cars had your same interior, while
the white cars had "Regatta Blue" ((dark)) interior wih a Navy top.

FEW of the 1984s are still around VERY few !

You may find a inline fuse around the passenger side shock tower in the engine compartment. My car has this fuse that look to be ASC added. Look for this first. Then go in the trunk in the driver side quarter panel behind the trim panel near the wheelhouse there is a green relay box. Check for power with a testlight on the gray and yellow wire. If there is no power, this wire is routed from the driver side sill plate and kick panel and there is a plug in the kick panel on that gray wire. You can jump battery positive to this wire to test. This wire comes from another relay box in the center section of the dash behind radio and console. This box is black and on cars with Recaro seats I beleive it is used to feed the heated seats and also the gray wire that feed the rear top mechanism.

This is a 87 mustang schematic as it has a pulldown motor wich we don't have on Capris and there is no trunk green box on this schematic. But it help understand the front black box wich are availaible from ascmclaren.com.

How about the spring that was mentioned for the latch. I do not see any spring in the hole for the latch.

? When you pull the manual release cord, does that realease the cover & the top at the same time.

? If the switch was working does it release both too.

I can move/ turn the rod underneath the latch hole. Does this normally latch the the top?

The spring can't be seen from the top if properly installed. But the latch in that hole should be held up by the spring. When the hook go into the hole and the tonneau cover is pressed down there is a rod that push on the latch and pull the hook down.
-Yes when you pull the cord both get unlatched.
-Yes with the button both will unlatch too.
When you have power the tonneau will go up by a motor like a lincoln or cadillac trunklid and will be pulled down when you close it with the switch.
