NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!freakshow12 wrote:were there any? I am looking for an 85 and was wondering if any were made or if all were hardtops as that all I have seen.
How is it you own a classic Mustang and you use the term "hardtop" in that way? HOW????
A "hardtop" is what your 64 1/2 Mustang is. It has no B pillar. Ford never made any 79-86 "hardtop" cars.
86s came with the TRoof option. 85s did not, however I think maybe a few got a Sunroof...we just don't know 100% since we don't have any records for 85s.
(BTW, since I'm being such a major hard ass, I believe technically Ford called them T-Roofs and didn't use the "TTop" term. All the literature from Ford says "T-Roof", I think Chevy used "TTop")

LOL I know I am just a lazy typer! I hate it as well when terms are not properly used. Its good to know what I am looking at thats why I am here. I really want an 85 as I want the carbed engine but LOVE the look of the white 86's. I read that 60 white 85's were built but are they unicorns? I have not found one anywhere. The blue one I did find in florida looks ok but I am just not sure at the price he quoted me. I am no huge rush so I want to find the "right" one.

I was told by an asc employee that NONE arrived at ascMcLaren WITH a Sun Roof nor a T-Top in 1984 /1985. The reason being in freight.
FoMoCo shipped the cars TO ascMcLaren, and ascMcLaren shipped the cars to the freight forwarder to be raill-car loaded. FoMoCo had the contract with the freight forwarder to take the cars to Cars & Concepts, with whom they were under contract at that time ! Thsly the open roof "stop" was skipped.
In 1986 that contract was up, and ASC installed their Pop Up Sun Roofs and / or T-Tops.
Regardless....THAT was what I was told by an ascMcLaren employee. Now, that's not to say a selling dealer could send a car out for a Pop Up Sun Roof, from his dealership!
The (very) few 1986s with T-Top /Sun Roof, were done by ASC

Not confusing at all
Yours is a 1986. In 1986 a dealer ordered it with the Sun Roof and to be sent to ASC. she arrived at ASC with her S.R. in place.
This was permitted with the 1986s.
Do you have:
Power Door Locks ?
Automatic Tranny ?
Factory (FORD) Speed Control ?
For 1986 Ford was out from under contract with C & C for Sun Roofs & T-Tops. C&C would not forward car TO ASC/McLaren - thusly NO T-Tops/Sun Roofs for 84 & 85 arrived AT the selling dealer.
What a private consumer did or a selling dealer did, was out of Ford or ASC's jurisdiction, after the car arrived, and would be classified as AFTER MARKET.

I had PDL, but a 5-speed and no cruise (didn't want it because I'd lose that great ASC steering wheel for the stock Capri number).
The VIN is visable on the letter JPG I posed to the '86 Album.
Sadly, like my '85, this one was lost in a theft (Dec 1988) and only the apron was recovered. They did let me pull the ASC tag off that and I have it someplace.
As I dig through stuff, I'll post more particulars, but I can't recall seeing my 1985 VIN info anyplace in the last 20 yrs. Bought in July '85 from Hines Park L-M in Plymouth, MI (nightmare dealer!!).
