No different rockers.
The B-303 is still questionable. I have heard 3 85 coupes run. And I can tell you there was no B cam in them. Just the regular 85 cam....

Supposedly 85/86 Coupes got them.

Verts did NOT get any mods.

I believe 85s & 86 Coupes, but NOT EuroCoupes, nor Grand Prix IV
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

85 coupe engine

Post by stangmodifier »

I just pulled a head due to a broken intake bolt on 85 Coupe...607846. It is my first roller motor so I'm unfamiliar with these internals. In the lifter valley on both sides between the lifter bores and the head mounting surface there are 3 X's cast in. Also the pushrods seem to be 2 pieces or maybe it is just a collar of sorts 4/5 of the way up the length. I have aftermarket 5.0 pushrods and they are the same length but have no collar. I have put together many older ford hydraulic lifter motors and have not seen pushrods like these. Someone tell me if this is common to stock 85 5.0's or could these (the block XXX and the pushrods so far) be some of the motor stuff planned by ASC? It is one of the earliest vin's on the 85 coupe list.

"XXX" means nothing. That is cast into pretty much all roller blocks.

The collar, I don't know about. Got a picture?

I know those pushrods you are referring to. I don't know when they stopped them, but they were the same type in my 85 and 86 capri 5.0s when I put new heads in them. I almost think they made the lower part more 'beefier' so it will hold up better as it moves through the hole. They didn't come apart, but I never tried to taske them apart. I assume they are crimped, pressed, etc. It they actually moved or came apart, the valve train wouldn't work properly. Newer types are all the same diameter.

I believe they were to indicate which end of the pushrod was up.

I guess there is some sort of a wear pattern after a while, but for new pushrods, both ends are the same.
