1987 ASC McLaren with Dash Plaque #490???

Post by dmarsh »

From my understanding, there were only 479 of them made in 1987. VIN is 1FABP40E9HF248334. Any suggestions??

1987s were numbered 001 to 479, as479 were made. 1987 & 1988 were considered "SERIES I" so theydid NOT start over numbering them in 1988, therefore, 1988s were numbered 480 thru 1,494, as 1,015 were made.

BUT sandy has said in the past that the numbers were not put on in order. i think he spoke to somone that worked for ASC who said there was just a large box full of plaques. they would reach in and pull one out and put it on. no order.

I'm here. Dealing with pain and eating like a horse! Hungrey and tired all the time. I drove my wife to the supermarket to shop - but I was too tired to go inside. I rested in the Jeep.

1987's were put on in fairly close order th reality. Many were right on...many more were very very close.

1988 they were way over taxed when considering the # of workers & managers. They had zero time to fiqure out what number went on which car. All of the cardboard boxes were marked on the outsisde the numbers that were inside on the palques. The last person to sign off had that job. Boxes were opened and dumped into a wheelbarrow. He reached in & picked a plaque and put it on.

1989 & 1990 with far less prduction had the correct numbered plaques installed on the cars.

Production:

`1987 = 479 units
1988 + 1,015 units

1989 = 247 units
1990 = 53 units + 12 Silver Anniversary Editions = 65 units.

Mercury Capri:

1984 Coupes = 25
1985 Coupes = 150
1986 Coupes = 114
1986 Euro Coupes = 47
1985 Grand Prix Coupes = 30

1984 Capri ascMclaren 'Verts = 50
1985 Capri ascMcLaren 'Verts = 257
1986 Capri ascMclaren 'Verts = 245

1991 Prototype Mustang ascMcLaren 'Verts = 2 (actually 1990s upgraded for trade shows.

It was in the wheelbarrow, and it was the one the person picked.
