A rare one... for sale

Post by ProTouringASC »

Well, it's for sale... pics, etc to follow.

1989 asc/McLaren convertible

Hot Yellow (only Yellow car built in '89)

Grey interior

5-speed

Why it's for sale: To be properly cared for it needs new paint, carpet, correct wheels, and new seat covers. Minor rips on the seats, carpet is faded, and it has the usual rust where the roof was cut. Steps have been taken to ensure the rust does not spread, but I simply do not have the money or time to really get into this car. Beyond that, I would modify it, and being a one of one, it deserves to be restored/kept original.

You love that car, and it's your car. Please try to hold on & keep.

I'll never say it was Royal Gold first again ! NO, it was always Hot Yellow, frome Day #1 YELLOW YELLOW WELLOW !!!! I was wrong, I was wrong, you were right !!! Okay? Pleae, keep her - She loves you, go, go & ask her, she'll tell you. She could fall into non-caring hands and suffer an early demise at the hands of a 17 Y.O. who will dress her up in Pep Boys "appearance" parts. Stuff nightmares are made of, and drag race & beat on her...the only Hot yellow 1989 ever made.

You'll not be able to sleep well. Keep her, for she IS a keeper.

(That's my best effort? !

LMAO! That is sooo true Sandy. So many cars fall mercy to the "Autozone Makeover"....... its sad.....

The problem is, our cars aren't worth enough money to keep them out of those types of people's hands...... Its not hard to scrape together enough cash to acquire an ASC. :(

Oh well, another one I wish I could buy.

Sadly, basic math escapes that crowd. They'll spend $5k on ridiculous spoilers and rims for a Chevette when a "real" car would've been cheaper.

My question has always been: who's impressed by these travesties and who buys it when Pimp Daddy tires of it?

So here is the reason I am selling the yellow one...

Image

It's a 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. The body is in great shape, and I think the paint will even buff up. The interior is a bit tired, and some previous hack "removed" the A/C with a saw, but I have procured the appropriate parts to bring all that back in line.

Future plans will be for a little more boost, water/alcohol injection, and maybe an IRS from a Mustang Cobra.

Between this car and my parts car I have most of the really good options including keyless entry, 6-way power seats, etc. One option it doesn't have is a power moonroof. I'll be checking out the salvage yards for a modern aftermarket unit to let the sunshine in.

Any thoughts on where I should list the asc?

I got the VIN!! It wasn't originally Silver, it was Dark Green Metallic !!!

It's a nice car, but do you really like it better than your McLaren? I think the Mac is more unique, and sexy as a convertible. I think you'll miss the ASC.
I would think about it, and also if you sell the McLaren & your attention turns to the T-Bird, we will miss you !

I hope that you will not leave us - :lurk: :burnout:

It's not so much that I won't miss the car, it's more that I don't have the time nor the place to treat the asc as it should be treated. It frequently ends up as my daily driver, and it deserves a bit better.

The TC, with its much higher production numbers is a great candidate to drive and modify, and will serve well as my daily driver.

If, of course, things were to not pan out so well, and the car just didn't get the kind of money I would like, it may end up in the garage awaiting better times. Never can tell! But for now, it is officially "for sale."

As for hanging out with you guys... Sandy, I wouldn't miss it for the world!

Love the T-Bird. Ford was really on a roll in those days.

How much are you going to ask for the Yellow One?

No doubt that the 'Bird is a rare flight and I am sure has a following. THAT example (your McLaren) looks to be excellent, and yes it's a better daily driver and far less likely to be broken into and/or stolen(The Bird) than the ASC I see your point.
IF I could afford it, and had the room for your Hot yellow '89 I'd buy it, for sure. But, as is presently, my monthly car storage bill is $375 dollars. (and) that is good, as it had been $230 more than that, last year, until I moved into Car-Condo this past November (2008). It damn near killed me passing up a SeaFoam Aqua 1990 'Vert (white top & interior) a year ago, in condition #9 outta a possible 10. But, the $16,800 was too much for me and an additional $150 @ month was likewise. It was time to stop.

Very cool, thanks! I think I'm OK as the parts car has all of its A/C stuff, but I will keep you in mind.

Why swap out the Turbo though? 300hp isn't so far away on a Turbo 4 and then you get nearly 30mpg highway to boot!

Post pics of your swap, sounds cool. Are you on http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/ ?

I would like to be in the neighborhood of 7K, but I don not know if that will happen given the economy, thus I am open to offers. I paid a fair bit more for it, but so goes the world, eh?

Sorry the pics have yet to be posted, all it has done here lately is rain!

They aren't correct and thus I figured they didn't do much for the car's value one way or another. Plus, I wanted them for the Thunderbird.

As you can see, they look good on that one too!
