I have absolutely NO information on ANY 1984 models except fopr the total number built. 50 Converts & 25 Coupes. ALL 25 Coupes were Dark Blue with orange decals, logos & striping. 35 of the Verts were bright red, 10 were white & 5 were black. ALL had the Tan Roof & interior. The lion's share never left the state of Michigan.

Does the 602573 # fit into the 85 production number series? I'm getting the numbers from the inner fender tabs as the rest of the VINS are gone and I'm trying to determine what this car was.

Is this a vert or hatch? I suppose it's possible that it's any one of the 3 years but that's a pretty early vin for a 84...

It's a hatch. Are the production numbers sequential from 79 through 86? Are you thinking this was an earlier car than even 84?

They start at 600001 each model year, what my thought was that very few of the 84s I have notes on are that low (what Sandy has registered even for verts,I don't know) most of the verts have vins like 620900- produced later in the year. I don't think we've unearthed a 84 hatch yet (and I've looked-alot) to compare vins. Would be sweet if you found one... What color is it?

Yeah, IMHO, that CUN is far too low for an 84 asc hatch.

Does the car have quad shocks or slapper bars? If it has quad shocks, then it is going to be an 85 since a CUN that low is going to get slapper bars.

How much of the car is there? There are many other ways to tell an 84 from an 85.

KHummel66, look at your 85s. Look at the firewall and where the heater hoses/AC dryer hooks up. That will be cutout differently between an 84 and an 85.

The car is metallic blue, but the engine bay is painted black.

There are 8 figures impressed on the fender tabs - two alpha characters followed by the 6 digit production serial. Is this typical? Would the two alpha characters be the same on the fender tab as the two that preceed the serial in the whole VIN?

The first of these two is an "F" although most of the shorter cross line in the middle is not there, so it looks more like an upside down backwards L. The second character is an "F" If these are the same on the fender tab and in the VIN, would ths be the production year and assembly plant - 1985 and Dearborn?

OK, thanks Mike. That takes care of the year.

Now I'm wondering if it is a legit car since the serial # is 1006 lower than any other car on the 85 Coupe VIN list.... Sandy?? Any info on this number as an 85?

Seems to me, that 2,573rd Capri off the line, is way to early to be a 1984, but, that said, I've grown imune to being shocked by asc/McLaren's marriage. My guess? It's an early 1985.

BTW, I DO NOT have VINS on 1985s, either ! I have 1986-1990 inclusive. All I have for 84s & 95s are grand totals of each body style and color breakout.

Is there a way to back into the rest of the complete VIN from the production #?

Is there any way to determine if this is truly an ASC car?
