Okay, we have scoops in the hood, we have definately original leather interior with a split rear seat (back), with matched leather (not from a SVO) and ascMcLaren embriordary on the front seat backs, and we are told that most (if not all) VINs are "missing". This can only mean one thing, PROTOTYPE ! Can we find any tag that would tell it to be a 1984? (Sandy here thinks it is.....)
My guess for this car is a 1984 prototype shown in & around Michigan show circuit in early to mid 1984.
The VIN tags were removed so this it could not be sold. Somehow, it slipped thru

The vin tags on the inner fenders are stamped with 8 digits of the vin. The year, factory and 6 digits of the CUN.
KHummel66, said already it was an "FF", so this should be F for 1985 and F for Dearborn.
I asked him for a few more pics and I could tell for certain.

one more thing to look for would be the build sheet under the drivers seat. pull out the drivers seat pull up the carpet and if your lucky you will find it. i found my cars build sheet under the drivers seat. it was a bit brown from all the rust but you can clearly read my vin AND it says ship to "asc mcclaren" on the sheet. yeah... i know... ford couldent spell mclaren.

I gotta hunch that the "FF" is REALLY "EF"

i still think its an 85 and would be real easy to tell if we could get some shots of the exterior.
i did some searching and this is from one of sandys posts
"I was told that all 5 "Scooped" cars - each had a different stripe design!
1. Like the one we have been discussing. I'll call it two-stripe
2. Like # 1 above, but just a SINGLE stripe
3. NO stripe at all, but the off center of hood "dome" ascMcLAREN decal
4. Nothing at all, X-cept the scoops
5. If the 2 stripe one above (#1) had also an ascMcLaren decal off center on the hood, then #5 did NOT have that! If #1 above had no ascMcLaren decal on the hood, then # 5 did. I can't recall which was which.
I believe thwe mags were
Car & Driver
Motor Trend
Auto Week
Road & Track and
one for Publicity Shoots."
could this be one of the 5 promo coupes made? i think so! i also found some pics mike had posted of cars with scoops but i saw the halo hed rests is all of them so i guess it wasent this car.

4 new pics added:
1) fender tab w/8 character prod #
2) engine bay
3) heater hose cowl connection area
4) under the drivers seat carpet - no build sheet, but the top of a paint can with an interesting note on it
I didn't have time to check for the build sheet under the pass side seat; and the rear seat bottom is still in place so it will take a bit more time to check there.

that is flipin cool. we need to see some pics of the belt molding that goes all the way around the out side of the car. its the gray molding. 84 has one big line down the center. 85 has 2 small lines low on the molding.
sorry no build sheet. but how frikin cool. this sounds like a sweet car to own.

The engine bay tells you its for sure a 1985. No question.
The inner fender vin tag also is from a 1985 car. No question.
This would have to have been about the earliest 1985 coupe made. Has to be the earliest 85 I should think.
I wonder what her story is.

The cutout for the heater/AC hoses changed from 84 to 85.
Very very different.
This is an early 85 Capri.
It won't be until Marti Autoworks gets the 85 reports done that we will know exactly how this car was ordered and what options it has.
If it is a prototype, asc may have ordered it straight off the line and not through the special build process either. So she may not even have a special DSO like the other cars.
If she just had her door tag we could probably know a lot. Do we even know it was an orginal 5.0 car?
A very very strange car.

Testing VINs in Carfax results in a response on an 85 VIN that has an M engine code for a 4bbl 5.0. This would also make it a 5spd car. Doing the same with 84 VINs comes back as a V6. Not conclusive as a V8 car, but pointing in that direction.
I know the car came with power windows and power door locks, rear defrost, power gas door release, and A/C. Somewhere in it's life an 8.8 rear and frame connectors were installed.
There are screw holes for the headlight and taillight covers. And it more recently had the gray/anthracite lace wheels instead of the orange, but I don't know if that's how it was back in the day or if they were changed at some point.
