NOT A SINGLE SPEC OF RUST ON ANY OF MY CARS. COME & SEE 4 YOURSELF.
Even the tailpipe, etc. She (the coupe) is covered with 2 bed quilts, over which is a car cover. It's a brand new garage, no leaks, no draft, double sided wood (exterior & Interior seperate panels)
Don't worry - I am an excellent Daddy! Only I am afraid to take her out of captivity, with all the traffic around here, and the crazy way New Jersey drivers drive! Tailgating IS the National Sport on the road here in N.J. Speed limit signs are merely a "suggestion" and drivers race up to red lights, to jockey for posistion when the thing goes green!
Body shops typically offer 2 week waits to take in a car that only needs a back bumper !! If you are driving a 1927 Ford they will give you (some) R.R. (Road Respect) but anything newer than like a 1950 something, you are fair game to hit.
THEREFORE, the Coupe suffers from lack of use. This year (2009) I took her out once. there weas a car show in the center of the town I live in. It is exactly 1.5 (ONE POINT FIVE) mile(s) to get there and 1.5 to get home! SO, she went 3 miles all year. She is now at 700 miles, exactly.
So, that averages out to 30 miles per year, on average.
Before I got sick, I would (during the Spring, Summer & Fall) set my alarm clock for 5:30AM on a Sunday with nice weather, and I would leave the house by 6:15AM and take her out, while the hoodlums behind the Hondas were "UP" and the roads were free of the aggressive Acuras and the terrible Toyopets. Have a nice 15 mile ride on the recently resurfaced roads. But now it's too hard for me to get up that early. No can do.
Next Spring, around May I am gonna drop some High Blood Pressure Pills and take her OUT. It's anything BUT a relaxing ride, believe me!

Sandy,

I can appreciate the fact that you keep your cars in pristine condition, so I think you need to buy a driver quality car so you can enjoy it and not worry as much. Maybe something with some rust and dings.

Cold air is usually nice and dry. Plus cold inhibits the oxidation process. It really shouldn't rust any faster.

hummm i wonder why last year all the bolts on my engine rusted. it happend during the winter/spring time. i thought it was because the cold engine block hit the moist spring air and the water condensed on the block. then it rusted.

i hope next year i will have my car in a heated garage.

I share my wife's 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4X4 Wagon, which is also mint, well, super mint, condition, and I have a 2003 "Spring Feature" Edition "THE LIMITED" Lincoln Town Car, with just 10,100 miles on her, or an average of 1,400 miles @ year, since new. All cars here are mint. I would never ever have it any other way. I am nutty that way. It came from being IN the new-car business for "only" 27 years, dealing with insane people.

Here is the Cherokee, it's a "Final "500" Edition" - made the LAST day of 2001 Cherokee production = 500 were made that day.
Black, Red, Silver, White or Dark Blue.

Spring will do it to you. But we're talking warm/moist and not just cold. Warm/moist is what will rust things fast.

Also was your car is a very dry garage or something like a pole barn? Even in hot/moist weather, a garage that is nice and tight is far better than a pole barn that which will let moisture in and out easily.

Beginning in late March, I begin running my storged cars (not the DDs) and I run them in the garage(s) were they are, for like 20-30 minutes. This heat build-up, keeps them from rusting nut & bolt syndrome. I do it 2 times a month. Prior to March, they are not run, from like now until then.
I have inspected them extremely well. There is absolutely NO rust, except some on the suspension springs., and THAT is very little and just on the surface. I did spray a little WD-40 on them, on the coupe's F/R springs - the 'Verts are in 73 degree winter storage.
