It's a loooong story, but bacicaly, I sold off many of my ascMcLaren NOS parts, for cheap, to pay hospital bills and I joined the AMC Matador Group, and am looking for a neat Matador Coupe. Found one in Western Pa. and took a road trip to go & see it. Nice - but not nice enough !

This is why I am 100% for a single payer health care system. The cost of staying alive is retarded in this country. No one should be forced to face bankruptcy in order to fight for survival. No other developed country has even the notion of bankruptcy due to medical needs.

Okay, I was was joking. I had an infusion on Nov. 30th that went terribly wrong & I was for daze sick as #$#%
Also, my 'Puter got hit with a Russian (very bad) virus, even thou I have protection.

Whew. Glad to hear you are OK.
My dad (70 years old or so) had a scare too this week. He went in for a "routine" hernia operation. They had to put him under for it. He has surgury at like 8:30am. It goes fine. The hospital kicks my dad out before 11am...a little less than 2 hours after they wake him up....because that's all the insurance company will pay for.
So they go around the corner to a coffee shop to get a small bite to eat since my dad hasn't had anything to eat. He sits down and promptly goes into a coma. My mom says he stopped breathing for 10 seconds. They call 911 and the paramedics come. His blood pressure is nil. He does recover.
Needless to say we're a little pissed. This is a guy in his 70's. He is on blood pressure medication. He should have been under observation for 4-6 hours. He didn't need a bed but he should have been left at the hospital.
Somebody tell me we don't already have rationed care in the country. We're just slightly pissed at the insurance company about this.

Sandy, with all your problems I had very little fear that you had 'left us'. You are a survivor!!
Negusm: I agree. It's time that the LAST manufacturing (at one time) nation had a single payer health care system. Anyone that doesn't think we already have 'managed care' hasn't been sick in years! My BX/BS just went up another $50.00+ a month. Now costs over $6,000.00 a year plus deductibles and co-pays. Could run up to $10,000.00 easily with any illness. Health care costs us 22-26% of our GDP. No other industrialized country on earth pays even half that much.
Where would the money come from? By eliminating 2,000 'FOR PROFIT' health plans with their big salaries, bonuses, private aircraft, junkets for 'conferences' etc. Put some high dollar daisy out on the street like they have the people that made this country great, fought our wars, built our homes, cars and trucks. My wife was laid off at 60 with no plan to ever return to work in the employment environment in the USA today. Oh crap! Got on my soapbox!!

As for our health care system, I hope you don't ever have to deal with the consequences of a single decision maker system within which, despite the fact that you might have to money to pay for something yourself, if the decision maker says no, you do not get the treatment.
Personally, I say bring back major medical insurance, and let me pay for my doctor's appointments and the antibiotics needed to ward off my sinus infection. Such insurance will be inexpensive to the consumer and profitable to the insurance company. Allow insurance companies to compete across state lines, and it will get even cheaper.
As it is now, it is the "free health care" given to those who supposedly cannot afford it, dispensed through emergency rooms across the country and given to poor citizens and criminal aliens alike that is really overburdening the system and causing prices to spiral out of control. Even here there is an intelligent and reasonable solution. A government backed low interest "credit card" program with which those who cannot afford a doctors visit can go to the doctor's and pay for the visit and their antibiotics, etc.

Gov. run/takeover of health insurance isn't a good idea - look how well medicare is doing....... almost bankrupt. There is alot of bad information out there. for instance - 47 mil uninsured is BS, 12 mil of those are illegal criminal aliens and about another 20 mil are young people who elect not to have coverage. And seriously..... do you really think its right to fine someone and put them in jail for not having coverage????! IT is in this bill? how crazy is that.
We still have great health care in this country, why else would people from other countries come here for it, AWAY from their own countries' gov. run health care! ONe big reason is the rationing that goes on. And its already been said by proponents of this bill that "granny" should just take some pills instead of giving her a procedure that could not only take care of the pain, but extend her life. THis is outrageous. How compassionate is that??? Basically, its "your old, so you aren't worth it" Anyone feel like beating the crap out of that politician?
along with the good points that Bill made, you want health insurance to go even cheaper? pass tort reform....... ask a doctor how bad his medical mal insurance is.....
If this passes along with the cap and trade(tax) bill, this country will be hurt badly.
