This thing's a mess and it looks like it was all due to neglect easily avoided. Some people!

Did the Euro Coupe have the body tags too? Interior looks nice, but the thing needs about $5k in body work and some serious engine detailing, at the least.

That's the car from this post:

http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3091

Except for the rust on the top surfaces and the air dam, that is a very complete car for under $2K. I'm not sure what it would take to repair the rust and the floors are no fun, but that looks totally (and fairly easily) restorable.

If I didn't have 3.5 in progress already and no place to keep it ... hmmmm

Looking at the pics....the owner told me it's a EuroCoupe - - but I have looked these over real good, and I'd have to call it a FullPackaged car.
Here's why:
1. The Power Window/Locks button & surround are black plastic, not chrmoed. GS had chrome, while 5.0 (RS) had black plastic.

2. TheSeat piping is grey, matching the seats, MOST, if not all Euros had the RED piping, as stock Caprs had.

3. The level of options. The Alpine 7272 Stereo, the Pwr. Locks and the Whistler
radar....

I am fairly sure it is a RS (5.0 the name in 1986)

But what of the bodyside molding stripe? I've never seen that on an FP Coupe.

Sandy- Hi, hope you are doing well, been busy here in STL. I was reading your reply and have some points I see in this car.

1. Correct Buck Tag

2. Grey Seat Piping is on Euros (#16 & 19 at least)

3. Correct Sail Panel & Inserts

4. Correct Wing

5. 1/8" stripe on Molding

6. Head & Tail Light Covers

7. Horn Pad

8. IP/Dash Inserts - Light Grey

9. Rear Valance-Side Skirts

I could be wrong, but appears as a late production Eurocoupe based on the items I see, couldn't imagine someone adding those items onto a RS that many years back as the deterioration looks very consistent. We all have seen many different configurations on the Eurocoupes.

Could the Alpine & Whistler been add-ons by the selling dealer?

Has the VIN been checked against your database? Did the seller find a build sheet to verify a D32 code?

Too bad to see another rare example of our cars in this state, I agree that the value of the car is probably more for the ASC specific parts on it since the metal is "soft" as the seller states most likely infers that the car is not sub-structurally sound in other critical areas, mainly torque boxes, firewall & strut towers.

I also read your dissertation on ASC being a factory "Authorized" built product, interesting read, just need knuckleheads like Craig Jackson to get on board with our ownership and give our cars the recognition and value they should have and rightfully deserve.

Do you have a number of Eurocoupes of the 47 built still exist? I figure there are maybe 1/3 or less left, much fewer as #1 to #2 condition.

Just my .02, hope someone can save/restore it.

in 85 the power window/locks were all chrome on the 5.0/rs cars.

did they switch to the black style in 86 on capri's?

i thought that the black ones were exclusive to the mustang in 85 & 86.

Sandy, the 85/86 Capri RS had chrome power lock/window bezels. Only the asc cars were changed to black ones. ALL Capris had the chrome. We talked about this a while back. The Capri had the "upgraded trim" and received the chrome interior accents regardless of trim level. The brochures all say so and every single car that is "unmolested" that I have seen has chrome bezels.

Black was ONLY on the Mustang GT for 85/86 and the ascMcLarens.

My former 85 Capri RS had chrome trim. It was 100% stock when I bought it. The build date was 10/84.

Chrome vs Black switch covers

Post by capri50asc »

Sandy are you saying my 86 Capri 5.0L has the wrong covers? I purchased the car in 1992 from the original owner. Its stock right down to the factory paint. everything is perfect on the car. I also have the dealership binder from the Mercury dealer. I have the order packages for all the Mercury's in 1986. This is the book that you would show to a customer. In print it says this "

Standard Interior features

GS RS

Trim
Panels

Bright door handles
Bright/Black door handle bezels No Change
Bright power window switches
Bright Door lock buttons

It also has a picture in the book with chrome covers on the door panels of the 5.0L model. I can fax or scan you this page.

In my e-mail the words RS should say " no change" under the words 5.0L The book says that the GS and RS both used the chrome (bright ) switch covers.
