Is there a book ?
Is there a book ?
I have a copy of The HIstory and Development of the Saleen Mustang. My question is ... Is there a History and development of The MC Laren?
Is there enough documentation on these cars to find out exactly how my MC was equiped when It was new?

Your car begin "life" as a 1988 Mustang LX V-8 2-Door Sedan (Notch back)
I do not know what transmission it had, (but you do!).
It was built (like all of them) with A/C T/G Am FmStereo/Cassette/Pwr. Locks/Pwr. Windows/ Light Group/Tilt Wheel. There were shortages on & off all 1988 of Electric Powered exterior mirrors. IF your car got built when the shortage was OFF, you'll have them - if not - youdon't have them (and theoriginal buyer did not pay for them).
She left the assembly line in Oxford White with Regatta Blue GT seats, even thought she was a LX. They were blue cloth. The back seat was omitted, as was the rear package shelf, and a whole mess of other smaller items.
All cars ordered with blue interior (for a McLaren) were Ford Factory Painted WHITE. ALL other interior colors generated a BLACK exterior car leaving FoMoCo to go to ascMcLaren, on Autry Ave in Livonia.

Thank you so much Sandy! It's cool to have that information.
To the best of your knowledge was there any other white paint used. I see no traces of Oxford white in this car. PPG Oxford white is my absolute favorite color. I just think it's stunning! The white, what little I see they guys all call (PLease excuse the term) Nut White. I think it looks dirty.
Is there a way to find out the past ownership of our cars. I think I would be interesting to see if what I was told is true. Like the car was originally sold in Portland @ A Lincoln Mercury dealer. Uggg the name of the dealership escapes me, I can see it in my mind, just not the name, I just remember the Ford dealership across the street.
It is my understanding that McLarens could be sold anywhere because they had no FORD markings. Is that correct? The only place that mine shows Ford is on the wheel centers, I took off my gold basket wheels.
Sorry for goin' on & on. It is so nice to talk to people who do not say "It's a WHAT." Or my personal favoite "Why would you drive something that does not have air bags?" I don't know if that Makes me mad or feel sad for the people who ask. I usually just say, Honey if you have to ask you will never understand!

Car Girl - Yours is an '88? Yes ? If so, PM me your last 6 digits of your VIN and I'll see what I can do.
Yes, trust me, your car left the FOMoCo assemly line in Oxford White, with Regatta Blue Interior, wearing GT Seats, in cloth. All interior over-head mouldings wereomitted, as well rear Defroster (Note your dummy button on dash with no markings on it). No rear quarter panels, no rear seat belts, but it did have carpeting. Blue Ford deck lid emblem omittted, and lots of other stuff, as per ascMcLaren requests.
These cars were only sold at Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealerships.
Your title - Bill of Sale - States FORD (or MERCURY if a 84 85 or 86)

Sandy,
If it was a 1988 with a blue interior, wasn't it pastel gray, or smoke, or whatever they called it? My 1988 was certainly not Oxford WHite from the factory, it was that grayish white. If memory serves, that was the only year blue interior cars started off in something other than Oxford WHite. Something about a lot of police cars using up the white stock.

Yes, Bob, I Am quilty of forgettting. Yes, many (up to a pont) were Oxford White 1988s. Then, as you jogged my mind, several huge orders came in for LX Police Car Specs. They (FORD) had to conserve on the white paint, so....because the cars under D32 (McLarens) were going to be repainted anyhow, they switched to a regular (other) color that was available for that year. It was a very light, pastel grey. Like smoke.
It was an easy switch as that color WAS available WITH the BLUE interior, so it was a 1-2--3 DONE deal. I recall that after the switch, they did not return to using Oxford White until Unit #1 of the 1989s.
The name of that paint was simply "SMOKE" and the Ford code was 1K
Numerial one (1) and letter K
There is NO way to know how many were first paint Oxford White and how many were painted Smoke.

Courtesy Ford is across the street from the dealership where my baby was said to have been sold. I believe they were sister companies. At least that is what the guy who bought the Saleen & sold me my GT told me. Dang I was in that neighbor hood today and didn't drive by & see if the dealership was still there.
Courtesy is also said to have sold the first 93 Cobra in Oregon as well. At least that is what my friend said when he bought the car.
Thank you Sandy, I will try and get those numbers to you soon. something about the flu kind of messes up a persons schedule

Truthfully, it may not be a "proper~book~Order" ... but 95% of all of it is SoMePlAcE on here.
There are things (few.... I streess FEW) that I can't put down in print, because it's uncomfortable to be sued. But, 95% of it all is here. You can always send me a PM or ask publicly on this site. Just do not ask on a Chemo-Day, or I might tell ya that McLarens were made at the Toyota plant, by the Wortburg Car Company.

We got 3 feet of snow !!! A record for Northern N.J. STILL awaiting the PLOW, maybe tomorrow. I am worried ablut my cars, over in Car Condo because Car-Condo has a FLAT roof, and it's a 100-year old Mill building, converted into "Car-Condo" It houses like 16 cars (all special) and is usually 63 degrees inside. All Concrete construction, interior, brick exterior, electric door openers for tenants, But, it's 4 miles from me, and we are trapped in the house, and I cannot take my wife's Jeep over there, UNTIL Mr. Plow Man gets here...sometime tomorrow.

Don't worry Sandy, if it was windy there is probably not much snow on the flat roof.
