Wanted: 1986 Fully Optioned Coupe - 5sp

Post by 02z06 »

I know this is probably a waste of a post, but I figure you don't know until you ask...
Looking for an '86 Fully Optioned Coupe. Must be a 5 speed, I'd consider a Euro Coupe but really want a full package car. Any color but white (nothing against white, there are just other cars out there that will have to be white in my collection and I want to keep it interesting). Grey or Silver are at the top of the list, black or blue are not far behind. Must be rust free, complete and not wrecked; not looking for a heavily modified car - stock is best. Driver condition or better. Reply here, PM me, or email me at buickgs455@gmail.com

Thanks in advance!

You just missed a well-optioned gray Eurocoupe cheap on eBay. Needs some real TLC and heavy duty paint work, but at $1700, very nice starting point.

I saw that car on here, FEP, eBay, I think it made the rounds. Very very neat car, I could probably buy a nice driver ASC for the cost of bodywork/rust repair that one needed. Let alone paint, motor rebuild, suspension work from sitting for 20 years, etc. Neat car, but I'm looking for a driver car or better, and a 5 speed. I know it's a long shot, but had to ask

G/L. it took me 6(+) years to find and finally buy one. I ended up with an awesome car, so the wait was definitely worth it.

Thanks to plumkrazy for this pic. I still need to buy a new camera and take some nice pics of my own.

Thanks to Hippy for taking such good care of this car until I finally bought it.

I know that you looked forever, man did you end up with a beauty. Did that car come from the northeast? I think I might have seen pictures of it a few years back. Definitely a stunning combo! I want to see it in person some day.

You're probably thinking of the car posted on Hanks site from NY. Different car. It sold several years ago. I think it's in TX also. I wanted it bad, but the timing wasn't right back then.

This one was originally from NC/VA until it moved to Michigan then to TX. Amazingly clean. Hippy did a great job on it and it's all here, from the air horn, radar, floor mats all the way to the build sheet.

Let's meet up at a show somewhere. I plan on giving her an extensive detail soon and getting her on the road and in shows more.

For that you're looking at many times what I think you could've made nice that Eurocoupe. $4000 in repairs/paint and a $1700 core price would've made an excellent deal.

Had it been a Coupe, I'd have bit and I'm totally against being the build guy since the next guy is the one who gets the bargain, like Scoutdrivinrebel's excellent find. Hippy invested WAY more time and energy than the sale price reflected.

If that had been an '85--or even a blue '86, I'd have grabbed it up here when I first saw the quality of the work.

Scout- maybe this summer we can find a mutual car show and bring a couple of the cars out, at some point we should really get together a texas 4I show. If we did it in Waco or something like that I think just about everyone would be able to make it... Austin/DFW/Houston. That would really be neat.

Chuck- If it had been a 5sp car I *might* have considered it, but I just can't do the automatic deal. You are lucky that you could have all of that work done for 4k up by you. In texas, a good paint job alone is $4-5k and that's no body work. Just very nice paint/prep. That rust repair probably would have put me back 7k or so, especially all of the rust on the floorboards, in the torque boxes, etc. It pretty much would have had to have been a rotisserie deal. That put it at 15k from the get go, and I could probably find a driver-nice car between 7-12k. That was my thought process anyway :)

The beauty of living in Greater Detroit-- lots of talented car guys, painters, etc. with lots of experience in rust willing to work cheap in this economy.

A very good body shop is, at best, about $35/hr right now--and that's negotiable.

I saw Hippy at a show in Ann Arbor in August. He bought a low-mileage early 90s GT convertible, but only to flip.

He put a ton of work into Scout's car. The paint is excellent. He even straightened the wing in a way none ever were, even brand new.

Accurate Collision on Merriman in Livonia They just upped it to $40, but they admitted that's a dream and they're slow. Deals can be made.

They are the only Jag shop for a ways, Excellent process there. Four coats each color & clear. Makes for a very nice finish.
