Picked up an NOS 86+ leather steering wheel for under $25. Score! 86-0001 will be very happy.

Without Ebay I wouldn't own, or have owned: 1997 Ford Expedition, 1980 Corvette, 1986 ASC/McLaren, 1965 Thunderbird.

I still have all but the Expedition and our daughter has that in Rochester NY and refused to give it back to me in exchange for a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge. The Expedition is nearing 300,000 miles but still looks and drives like new.

From the listing I thought it was used, but when it arrived with the original FoMoCo box and I saw the condition of the leather, NOS seemed more likely.

Obviously it doesn't have a McLaren horn pad, but that's OK, I can get that later.

86 wheels with cruise did not have the McLaren horn pad. They had the Mercury "Cougar" horn pad.

87+ had the asc pad for the cruise wheels.

Which should fit that wheel I guess.

86 0001's wheel has the Mercury pad. I was wondering if that was incorrect, but if the asc pad didn't show up until 87, then I'm in good shape.

I had that in my watch as well, but saw you backed up your first bid up so I didn't bid..lol

Then I looked at it more and it just looked like a standard wheel with a leather add-on, I wasn't sure. Thought about it for my capri but I really had cruise wheels.

Still a good buy

86 cruise wheels were still leather, right?

It's just the 85 cruise wheels that were the stock non-leather FOMOCO ones.

The 85/86 /Mustang/Capri wheel with cruise was not leather wrapped. The 86 mclaren's I have found, did not have leather wrapped cruise wheels. The leather wheel Keith has bought appears to be from an 87-88 Cougar XR-7 and some T-birds used it with the sport option. I had one on my old GPIV.

I don't recall if the base wheel was used or there was a special wheel that was leather wrapped.

I did see a cougar at the yard with a leather wrap, I thought it was a little different then that one though, but could be wrong. If it was nice I would have bought it.

If you check out the interior pic of 86-0001 you can see it has a leather wrapped cruise wheel with a section of the the leather being worn away on the top. Beneath the leather is what appears to be a standard type vinyl/foam padded wheel.

Same for my 86-0062. Look at the pics I have. It is really a cougar wheel but came from factory with it. I ALSO NEED ONE. I removed the worn the leather from mine.
