yep
Good point. I have no idea if it's the original, but you know what they say.
When in doubt, swap it out.

kinda sounds like the TFI on the dizzyshaolinfox30 wrote:I just read this thread and it made me think of my issue.
Only after I drive for about 45min. to an hour straight my 89 loses power and sputters and wants to stall. If I let it sit a couple of minutes it starts right back up but quickly shows same symptoms. It has never done this when driving short distances. Also, it's always been a hard start when cold.
I have replaced MANY parts ie fuel filter-plugs-wires-distributer-egr valve-egr solenoid-maf-iac-throttle pos. sensor-etc...
had the cats checked to see if clogged - not. I'm leaning towards fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump.
Engine light does not come on.
Any ides?
The hard start when cold has me thinking Fuel pump if he's already replaced most of the electrical stuff.
When you get in the car, cycle the key slowly a bunch of times. Do NOT start the car. You should hear the fuel pump turn on and off. After about 5 times, the pump should pressurize the line enough to let the car start right up.
If it does start immediately and normally you would have to crank the engine like crazy, it's the fuel pump.

I ran my car until empty tank this week-end and got the fuel tank off to get to the pump. I LOVE California. This cas has zero rust anywhere and everything is so simple to unscrew. The fuel pump is the original one with the date on it matching the car. I believe the fuel filter is also original as it is a motorcraft. The replacement pump I ordered from Summit is exactly the same as the original and same brand too, so it should be good for another 24 years.
