I just had to tell someone, and my friends are tired of hearing about the car.

I was having trouble with the transmission up until now and I was leary of getting ripped off by a trans shop - so I tried to educate myself on the basics.

I found that the TV cable was in need of a lube.

After going around the block a couple of times I got brave enough to get on the expressway and was pleasantly surprised at the result.

If anyone can give me advice on stall speeds and shift kits that would be great. One of the previous owners set it up to really kick when it shift and it seems like you have to back off the throttle and then give it a light touch to it get to move on to the next gear, but I have all four gears now. Before, it would only give me second.

I was told that same thing by the previous owner of my 85 however this was not the case, the cable was waaaay out of adjustment and that is why MY car wouldn't shift up until you played with it like you stated. My car also had a seriously hard shift into the next forward gear like a shift kit as you mentioned.... when I adjusted the cable, the unit worked as it should instantly

I'm pretty sure a shift kit was installed.

I followed the instructions in this youtube video after lubing the cable. It was about 1.5 inches out of adjustment.

I'm pretty sure I would've been juked for a couple of hundred on this, and I hope it saves some of you a buck and some aggravation.
