'85 asc McLaren coupe
http://binghamton.craigslist.org/cto/1619517579.html
Here is your chance to own a rare '80's muscle car. Basically this car is 1 of 150 made. These cars started out as a 1985 Mercury Capri (Ford Mustang) and were modified by asc McLaren. It is a 5.0 V8 5sp with a 4 bbl holly carb.
Info on these cars can be found here: http://www.ascmclarencoupe.com/TheCar.htm
I've had it for maybe 4 years now? I bought it with 92k miles and it now has 93k miles so you can see how much I've used it. Since then I've put in a new heater core, some nice original wheels, and new tires.
The car is un-restored and in original paint and is due for a repaint. It was originally from Texas and is very solid. No past accidents and no partial repaints. Frame rails are completely straight. This car is a perfect candidate for restoration or just drive as is.
The body has some small dings and dents. The rear valance is missing. The original floormats, headlight and tail light covers, radio, and radar detector are also missing although everything but the floor mats should be fairly easy to obtain. www.ascmclaren.com
The car runs great and drives great. I would not hesitate to take this car on a long trip.
I'd need to get $5500 for it to make it worth my while to sell it otherwise I'm probably better off keeping it. It comes with the nice set of original mclaren wheels as well as a spare set of original wheels that need to be refinished.
This car is not a show car although I liked to take it to shows anyway. It does need a restoration. The reason for selling is that we have 3 kids and it just doesn't get used. We ended up buying a new boat that we could use the money to put towards.

I don't know why I didn't think to list it here...
Anyway, I still have the car and would still consider selling it. I have no clue what the car is really worth and there doesn't seem to be much interest in it. I don't even remember what I paid for it but I was guessing I have about my asking price into it. With 3 kids my life has gotten in the way of my car hobby and I just don't have the time to play with them anymore. I only put about 1k miles on this thing since I've had it. I've already sold my SVO and my GT convertible. When I was younger I wanted this exact car forever and now that I have it I don't use it.
Anyway, I'm debating what to do with it. Either keep listing it until someone buys it or just drop it off at a body shop to have the exterior restored since I don't have the time and then just parking it.

I guess I should have opened a home for people who were not wanted. Everytime I see a McLaren that is getting booted out, I wanna adopt.
The wife says we have too many children, right now. No More !
My advice? Keep it. Little by little when time/money permits, fix one thing.

Dude, I hear you. I still need to rebuild my carb to get my car road worthy. Month after month ticks by....I need to just bit the bullet and send it out to be rebuilt.
FWIW, things will get better, kids grow up and get more self-sufficient and a little more time frees up.
Keep the car. Just be patient. If it's the car you want who gives a crap it sits in your garage waiting for you to get to it as long as it's not rotting away.

I could sent it out to get painted and made nice again but it would still just sit. Maybe I'll just squirrel it away like my other cars for some point in the future. I have a couple cobras and a low mile pace car that also haven't moved in years

Keep it! I bought my 427 Cobra replica before my daughter was born, and now I can make the same comment as yours above. It's got 2 seats and there are 3 people in the house - it rarely gets used - right now. I thought about selling it, but to get another just like it in the future will be unlikely. Things will change, my daughter will get older, time will free up, I'll have time for the car. As long as I don't need the money, I'm keeping the car. I highly suggest you do the same.gregpro50 wrote:When I was younger I wanted this exact car forever and now that I have it I don't use it.

I think I am going to keep it. In fact, I'm going to pick up that other '85 McLaren coupe that my friend owns so I can have everything I need to put mine together and then just sell that other one to someone inexpensive who will want to put that together. I wanted that other one for years but I just didn't want to handle the rust it had. The good thing is that it is complete right down to the radio, floormats, and detector.

Well I just bought that other one so I have everything I need for mine. I just got back from looking at it. I'll pick it up next week and take some of the little things off it I need for mine and then sell it so someone for a reasonable price.
If my car and this other one are sitting side by side this other one looks much nicer than the one I have now but has some rust in the bottom parts of the doors and on the floors.
