Hood bumpers:

I had a 9500 mile '86 LX coupe--painted
My brother's all original purchased new by him '90 LX coupe--painted
My McLaren bought used when 3 years old--painted
My '89 LX coupe cop car original paint throughout with VIN stickers untouched--painted

Image

That car is consistent with low miles and poor storage conditions, even then the axle itself would have rust due to barely any paint coverage when new.

Hood pads, mine rubbed on the air cleaner and was removed, they don't hold up well.

The only beef I'd have would be the dirty floors on this car, it proves carelessness.

I looked in my 1986 Product facts book ( salesman ordering book) and its states the following

Standard Interior features:

Padded luxury door trim with bright moldings and drivers side door map pocket

BRIGHT door handles

The pictures also show they are chrome My 86 Capri that I purchased from the first owner are still chrome.

1967 isn't centered. I wouldn't pay big bucks for this car. You just can't explain this away. It would take service records, carfax, and anything else that would document the car's mileage over the course of its life for me.

Just saying.
I wish blue jeans, old cars, and boots would go out of style.

1986 Mercury Capri on Ebay

Post by capri50asc »

Guys,

I looked at the 1986 Mercury Capri today and it is just 5 miles from my home. When I arrived at his home, the Capri was on his drive way in front of his pole barn . Which had in it two 1967 Mercury Comet drag cars both with 427 engine, decaled and mint shape. Also a 1963 Ford Galaixe XL with a 427 engine, A car lift and engines and transmissions every where. and everything a car repair shop has in it. Plus a full body shop in the back ( hidden from the main road). I started thinking!

Here;s the details on this Capri:

The Hood had three dings in it, about the size of a dime. The cover under the hood was removed because of mice had started a home under it,

Drivers door has been repaired and repainted above the molding. You can see checking clear in the paint and overspray on the door handle. The paint is also on the mounting part of the handle that mounts to
the door skin. Paint is missing just north of the inside latch when the
door is open, about 3 inchs around. Door was tight on the hinge!

The roof had three large dents on it. (hail damage?)

Drivers rear QT Very good

Hatch back had a strange wave just to the left of the third brake light
it did not look right standing behind the car.

Rear bumper showed some fade between the tail lights

Front bumper and Air Dam Perfect!

Pass, rear QT had a gash about 1 inch long and half inch deep. near the tail light under the hatch. paint was missing

Gas struts would not hold up the hatch back

Pass, door was very good.

Pass, front fender had paint missing on the top about 1/2 long. Primer
only. good size spot.

Interior:

Very good and some what clean . But the drivers seat showed some wear on the corner ??? No wear on pedals. Console was good and strong with
no wear. But the drivers interior panel did show it was removed because
of body shop dust around the edge.

Glass very good.

Dash and all gauges looked perfect as did the dash cover and all
instruments

The car had a tilt wheel, but the owner did not even know it! I show him how it worked. This is for Sandy it was not on the window sticker that
the car had a tilt wheel Was this standard guys? My books show it was optional

Engine, I started it and it was strong, sounded good. He stated to me
" I have only changed the oil once!" on this car. WHAT!

With engine running I pressed down on the clutch and the pedal had very little pressure to it. it felt like the clutch springs had no life to them.
( I was thinking was this car used for drag racing?)

Tires looked to be factory installed but they did feel hard on the edges with dry rot.

Window sticker says car was delivered to Candy Lincoln Mercury and was transfered to Hines Park Lincoln Mercury some time in Sept of 1986.

Built date 06/86

Standard AM/FM Radio

No Locks power group

Pass, side exhaust pipe was bent up

Clean underneath, Some surface rust on steel parts,

The odometer ,I looked at the numbers.I did not get a strong fuzzy feeling

That's it! On a scale of 1 to 10. I feel this Capri is a 8.5

so, what did the owner have to say about the super low miles, was it also a drag car at one point
also how did the front end look as everyone has been commenting about it. I have been sucked into following this because i became so curious too

The hood and bumper did not look to be repainted ,Just the drivers door. The car has issues and the sagging map pocket on the drivers door had two tailight blubs in it that made it looked open.

I did not ask him about the miles, Like I said I did not get a good feeling about it. Look I have the twin to this car and mine has 83,000 and it looks better! and feels tighter

I did ask him about the reserve he stated " Between $10,000 and $20,000

I did not ask him if he drag raced it, but from the cars he had in his pole barn and the way the clutch felt. ..................I well, I could smell the rubber burning!
