ONE FOR SANDY THE GREAT
ONE FOR SANDY THE GREAT
Hi ,While looking for my old Shelby.I went to this web site. (WWW.lehighvalleypasaac.com) And on page 3, of Menbers Rides There is a picture of a '82 Mustang. The caption under the car lists it as 'vert convertion done by "BIVOUAC". And is 1 of 127. And also notes, that it is " PRE Mc CLAREN ". I don't know... If I can spell SHELBY, Why can't they spell Mc LAREN ? Anyway,Just wanted to pass this on.

The rear seat area is akin to our McLarens. The rear windows (plastic) are again, like our cars.
However, as you can see the car sits higher and the rake of the windshield is much more upright, than the laid-back look of our cars.
I never was able to obtain the production # Owner states 127 (I think - I have to go back & check.) Wonder if it is a CORRECT number??

I don't know how old that posting is on that 'site or where the number 127 came from, but that number seems to have been revised to 133 by the same person. He claims to have tracked down one of the original co-owners of the company and then had a conversation with him about the car. I know of the car owner, online only, going back about 10 years and I do not believe he is a B.S.'er.
Here is that particular car in more detail:

And being 'restored':

And of his conversation with the Bivouac co-owner:

I don't think Bivouac is associated with asc in any way.
We do see people trying to throw the asc name in there to boost the value of their cars though. Not sure why since the pre 84 verts made by the various coach builders are exceedingly rare and should be valuable in their own rights.

Mike (03 Mach) and I were at a show in SoCal when a guy came up and struck up a conversation about the McLarens. Like always, we were suspect of another story about the cars or some one having had one. The guy did mention something about being related to one of the other verts. We did get his card and he works for Hurst. Yes the shifter company. Maybe Mike remembers more of what he had to say. We did get his card.

Very cool article. Now I know >>> 133 <<< were made. I never knew. Very cool to know, once in for all. I have seen 3. All were Red, well, 2 bright red & 1 a darker metallic red.
I wish the "owner" of the company had given you even more info. Maybe he thought you were a lawyer....'Ya know, folks are "sue-crazy".
Seems to me that ASC COPIED the Bivovac, rather the other way around.
I like the McLaren better due to the lower stance and the "A" post being layed back. But, I do appreciate the "Bivi" !!!

Re: Associated with others.
Yeah I sent that guy an email about the information and literature he might have. He told us that he used to work on the ascMcLaren program and thinks he had some paperwork laying around. He said he would look into it and still has not got back to me. I'll shoot him another email.svo413 wrote:Mike (03 Mach) and I were at a show in SoCal when a guy came up and struck up a conversation about the McLarens. Another guy at the Grand National told me about an '81 Gia Mustang with a 4.2 litre that was altered by Coach builders. Said it had a top similar the asc's but was a four seater. He is trying to restore it but was having trouble finding parts...
