Got a little problem with 25 Anniversity Edition

LAST Summer, I had to swap out and install a new passenger-side Power Door Lock Switch, as it would LOCK, but it would NOT UNLOCK. It would only UNlock from the Driver's side. So, my dealer installed a new one. This switch - since then - has been used under 10 times !! I took her out today, for a ride with "Mrs. McLaren" and guess what? Same switch failed again. It will lock, but not UNlock, from passenger side.

I called my L-M-F dealership & spoke to my good friend in "PARTS". He mentioned something about a Negitive/Positive and that it switches back/forth, depending upon what you want it to do. Polarity I think he mentioned, and thought that the polarity on the UNlock - that wire was bad.

Anybody shed more light on this ? She will be going in next week for this
and I hate to have to purchase a new switch every year!!

sandy i looked up a diagram and it looks like when you press unlock power goes from the fuse through the pass side switch to both door lock actuators back to the pass side switch through the lock side. then over to the driver side switch through the lock side and to a ground.

looking at this diagram the only way for the driver side switch to work in lock and unlock and the pass side switch to work only in lock it has to be the switch. if it was anything other then the switch it would not work in lock.

the back and forth switching of polarity ( + or -) works kinda like this.

the lock actuator has 2 wires. both go to the pass side switch. the switch has 5 wires the 2 from the lock actuators. 2 more that go to the driver side switch. (from the actuators through the pass switch) and 1 power wire. the driver switch is the same. 1 power 2 wires from the pass switch and 2 wires going to ground. when you push on the switch you are "breaking" one of the 2 wires (that go from ground on driver side through both switches and over to the lock actuators) and touching it to power. so depending on witch wire you touch to power you get lock or unlock. so since the rest of the system is working the problem has to be with the contact in the pass side switch that touches to power.

Just seems odd that every 4 years I need to replace this and in the 4 years, she MIGHT get activated 10 times. Never had a problem with the driver side.

Mine would not work.

We did not go to Synagogue today, nor last night. I felt okay - but not good enough to sit thru, who knows how many hours. Karen stayed home, with me and made some yummy good home made Chilli. with Mexican beans, onions, green peppers, HOT sauce and melted Chedder swurls.
