need mechanical help
I have an early build date (late 84) 85 carb'ed Capri coupe w a 5 speed... rebuilt the carb and can't find a gasket from Ford or alike parts stores. My question is, who has knowledge of the car having a heat shield between the carb and the egr plate? the local dealer states the heat shield part # E5TE crosses to a ford truck shield, and the 85 mustang/capri print out he has does not show one produced or installed on an 85 5.0
I am unable to even show the prior gasket as it was completely gone upon removal, however it appears that the carb was removed before so an actual gasket may not have been used, might have been liquid??? the Ford dealer parts guru is very knowledgeable and a well known Ford restoration expert but is stumped. He even stated the heat shield gasket for the Ford truck it crosses to is no longer availible thru Ford! Help
and all parts are factory to the car, from the carb to the intake to the air cleaner with 32,400 miles now on the clock

Gasket problem
Use Loctite 518 form-a-gasket. This product will take the place of the gasket. GM, Ford and Chrysler use this product on the engine and transmission instead of using a gasket. Its Anaerobic that works when there is metal and no air. It you have an aluminum intake you will also need to use Loctite primer "N" part number 7649. This will work for you!

ALL 5.0 carbed Mustangs/Capris from 83-85 got an alluminum heat shield. The E5TE is a truck part but it should fit fine. It's just a replacement part. I think it is slightly changed on the edges.
The gaskets are probably still available at any part store. I think you need two. One below the shield, one above. If they don't have one for a Mustang/Capri ask for a 4v truck one. Should be the same as the trucks used the same 4180c carbs and heat shields (slightly changed internally).
I wouldn't use the liquid stuff but that is just me. It would probably work.

just back from another parts store... and Mike your right, the Napa i found ordered two of the same gaskets, part #'s match both Ford's print out and there's.... so tomorrow hopefully I will have the correct gaskets. I am now curious why the heat shield is different but will deal with that another day. Thanks
A little late but this is how/where I got mine gaskets
