Guess he saw the handwriting on the wall. He'll claim he sold it before the auction ended, but I'll bet he didn't!

Yes that is a very commun practice. There is an additionnal fee if you put a reserve and it is more attractive without a reserve but that is ALL bull s...! A lot of dealers are doing this. If you watch you'll see the same vehicle coming back many times allways with no reserve. I saw that many times in the RV section.

I can't figure out why the car seems to have everything, yet has the chiepee seats and the plain old door panels?

To me - the car looks very good. Better than many.

If the best she can bring is in the mid 4 tjhousands, something is very wrong with the values of ALL of our examples.

I took a good look. Of course, no decor package, no radar detector, my door panels are entirely different, the engine has the 5.0 H.O. plaque. Mine only has ASCMcLaren on it. And, you're right. The cheap seats. And the 85MPH speedo. Nice top though!

Just adding the head and tail light covers would set this car apart and improve the appearance dramatically.

I checked his website and his prices are totally unrealistic in todays market.

Mercury Capri with one great looking paint job!"

When I called him a few weeks ago, he said it would have to be trailered for several reasons, like it came with no rear tires/wheels etc.

It has been for sale for at least six months on Craigs.

"I just witnessed one of these cars sold at mecum auction for 26k."

No he didn't. I watched almost all 5 days and there was no ASCMcLaren that went thru that auction at 26K.

The guy is a bullsheet artist, from what I gathered from my brief contact with him and from viewing his website.

I just double checked. There was 1. A Red 1988. Sold for $8,000.00.

I have Mecum in my favorites and can log in and search any vehicle and get the results.

No. It was a 1988. Not a Capri chassis.

As a side note: I contacted the guy again. Pointed out he had a 'bare bones' car. No extras of any kind and wished him luck on the 6 grand proce.

He replied: "Well watch and learn."

I'll be watching and I'm pretty sure he'll be 'learning.'

I got a good laugh out of reading all of the ads this owner has on the Orlando Craigslist under cars & trucks for sale, especially the one where he butchers the cars name.

Funny how a bid shows up (likely within minutes) of a conversation like that..
