Mac: My '86 has the rear seat speakers. But not of the brand listed as 'stock.' makes me wonder if someone could order a different radio/speaker combo since mine are all the same brand and look like factory installed.

I wish I knew and could talk to the original owner.

85 verts had rear speakers.

It seems on some cars, asc interchanged Kenwood and Alpine head units a lot. They did seem to go with the Kenwood speakers exclusively though.

Modern day Kenwood speakers will still fit in the 25 year old holes like a glove. The dimensions and hole placements have never changed.

I find it interesting that you new "baby" has the same tape stripe in the bodyside recessed moulding that my 1990 Azura Blue car has (in Silver metallic). I know that ascMcLaren did this, but on so so so few examples. I once saw it listed as an option, on a 1989 option listing (from McLaren) but never again, on any other psperwork. Yours? Is it TAN or BEIGE or GOLD Metallic ??

On what car was your green ones color from? If a Ford code, give me the code. You'll need touch up paint......

It's not my car, but is it okay to be excited for you ?? :blob: :bouncehappy:

Mike,
My 85 does not have the rear speakers, and when I was looking through the ASC albums on here for 85 converts. There is only one clear shot of a rear area & it does not have speakers either. Mine is an early 85 so I wonder if that was a later in the year option that your got?

Sandy, I'll come up with the paint code...I was going to get some estimates to have the paint touched up professionally.

I love to get my hands dirty, but know when something is outside the realm of my expertise.

The tape stripe?....From earlier in this thread, it says "Tan Bodyside paint stripe"...but...it is tape, not paint.

Still can't find anything not factory except the battery and the fluids... :D

I have some pics somewhere of an 85 vert with the square Kenwood speaker covers like the 85 coupes received. Could be a late one I suppose.

You guys are talking about the tape stripe applied by ascmcLaren.

The decode I did was the paint (yes, painted on the body) stripe applied by Ford. The "A/C" code on the VC Label is "U". If you look at the 1984 Mercury Color & Upholstery Selections book on negusm's site...

http://ascmclarencoupe.com/Literature/C ... ook_09.jpg

...you'll see the code for that stripe in table on the bottom-left of that page.

Is it also possible that the cars that received the Recaro seats with speakers in the headrests did not get speakers the rear panels, but those without headrest speakers did?

Maybe the seat speakers took the place of the rear speakers.

It would make sense.
