1989 mclaren value
i have a 1989 mclaren convertable. the rear end took a tulips on me the other day so i decided to get a new car instead of putting more money into it. would it be in my best interest to try selling it as is or parting it out? and how much it is possibly worth? if anyone has any ideas i would like any input possible.

sell it as is.... parting it out will be a headache and destroy a car someone could fix. Also the miles, condition of other parts mechanical, interior and exterior etc play a part in this however no one will benefit from a part out of this car in the end. BTW what do you mean by the rear end took a tulip? was the car hit or the actual rear end failed???
Parting the car won't net you much. There is only a handful of asc items. Most of the car are Mustang items.
Why would you part a car over a failed rear? That's one of the easiest things to fix. You can buy a whole unit for like $150 (used) and bolt it in.

Most mustang forums with classifieds, ebay, junkyards should have one. I base my price on the fact that I picked up a 7.5" rear pumpkin for $105 and it was NEW on ebay.
You are looking for an 8.8" Ford rear limited slip differential or an entire rear axle housing. You will need to know what ration you have (check the code on the door tag, or the tag on your rear end).
You'll need to read up on how to do it. Over at www.foureyedpride.com, the guys there swap these things around all the time. The classifieds there is a great place to ask to see if anyone has the parts.
If you like these older cars, take this as a good way to get to learn to fix them. They are easy to work on, the mechanical parts are NOT hard to find at all, and are cheap. Just remember that things can get discouraging...we've all been to the point where we want to throw a hammer through the windshield.

How many miles are on teh car? Is it in good condition otherwise? It would be sad to part it out. Are you sure it's not something as simple as a U-joint? They can make a terrible whine or clunk. I replace my ujoints at 100KMy '89 has 186,0000 on it, and the inside of the rear end looked great at 150K.

What do you mean the rearend crapped out? What happened?
Rear diffs are pretty easy to rebuild, usually just some bearings that go bad.
