Stereo and Dash
My friend asked me to ahow him the stereo not working inside of Froggy...
Take good look at the dash wood and tell me that a previous owner made 3 out of 4 peices.
Are there even supposed to be 4 pieces?

Sounds like the head unit is toast. I would just replace it.
The red trimmed dash panel hidden by the wood trim on that car is a GS dash panel for 1984 ONLY. So that appears to be correct. However the gaps around the steering column make things look out of whack somewhere.

That's why I asked...
Looks like it was made in haste, but Im' curious about the wood behind the stereo and around the message center.
Do all the cars have that, that are wood trim equipped. Are all 4 pieces in the wood package?

Yep, I believe that wood covers for the info center, stereo, & both sides of the dash are correct. At least it is for 85s so I would guess also for your 84.
By the way, your left speaker cover looks like the stock ones on mine. Or at least I was told that the black cloth (kind of cheap looking) was original on mine.
If I remember correctly the former owner of Froggy had told me back in Dec 1010 that it was original & that he attempted to make a copy of it for the right side!

Hey Mike, did you change your name? lolnegusm wrote:Yeah, I was thinking from the pics I have seen, the left side speaker cover looks very stock.
I would call Hank in Florida, he might have a replacement for the right.

The previous owner, I'll call him Justin (cause he said his name was Justin) told me that he made the one on the left door himself, and gave me a piece of steel cut and formed to a mirror image of the left and told me I was on my own... I think he does nice work and was on his way making the car 100%, just needed money ASAP. He gave me the switches and everything except the black screen material.
He said he made them from scratch 'cause he couldn't afford Hanks prices.

Re: Speakers...
When the Capri(s) were built by Ford (1984-1986), they were built with the "Stereo Delete" (code) AND the "Stereo Preperation Pkg." (code).
Meaning there was a plastic "hole filler" in the facing of the dash, to cover the hole where the stereo would have gone. All Radio/Stereo DELETE cars had that, <cLaren or regular Capri.
Then, they also had the Radio/Stereo Prep Pkg. which included the needed wiring and front & rear speakers.
My guess would be that there was a shortage on hand of the Radio/Stereo Prep Pkg, at the time that Ford made your car & they
just made it without wiring/speakers to the rear.
In my 27 years with Dodge one learns quickly that STOCK (inventory) cars often time are the 1st to show up missing something that shouda been on there - but due to parts shortage at the factory, they omitted "widgets" on all cars made on the 11th of the month.
Now it's the dealer's "problem" ~ Me thinks that is yiour car. Low on Radio/Stereo Prep. Pkg. - they just did a "B & S" (build & Ship).
A high quality Stereo place can fix it all up for you.
