Man, did I ever get shafted

Post by Sandy »

SOoooo, Guy I paid my rent at Car Condo - like a manager or something, decided he had enough and told everybody they had to vacate the end of this month! So, I went scrambling to find storage for 2 "kids". Storage here, in New Jersey comes at a premium. Property tax here is sky high, and that is refrlected in taxes and rents. Well I was paying $150 @ month at Car Condo. It was close by (4 miles from my home) and was kept at about 55-60 degrees all winter. We were all told to vacate. I went first, others did nothing. I found out that most all commercial places were full ! I was willing to bring 1 McLaren HOME and kick te D.D. outta the garage & into the driveway - and rent only 1 space in enclosed storage. I ran around for 2 days looking at places. 99% were full - waiting list. CRAP !
Only place with only 1 left is the Beverly-Hills of car storage !
Heated, Air Conditioning keept at 70 degrees 365 days @ yr. Each car goes into it's own garage, withwn the building, which is all brick exterior and interior too. The floor is concrete and it has an indoor roadway, with gargaes on either side, facing the indoor roadway, Each slip has a padlock.
I cringed at the price. $ 284.00 @ month. I bit the bullit. I paid the rent.
Oh, don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful facility, and convenient and like a bank vault, with guards and video cameras and and and....

So, I brought a McLaren there, and I paid.
6 hours after I got home - the owneer of car condo tells e-body that he got canned and it was a dirty trick telling us all to find orther storage, and we do not have to leave !! Car Condo is $ 150.00 @ month
SOooo with me gone, somebody else grabbed my spot.
I am now paying $16.00 less than 2 spot at Car Condo.

I've been fortunate to find friends with space for my cars in most cases.

On the other hand, I'm in Michigan. $284 could buy you a whole block of vacant commercial property these days....

Yup! I told the owner, that I will be back on May 1. Everyone with a car in there, wants me back. They asked the lady, will she wait for me, and that they want me back, and she said okay. Car-Condo, rides again, brought back from sudden death, last week.

Sandy,

I haven't posted it on here yet, but I moved from Arizona to Saratoga Springs NY for a new job. We move into our house on 1.3 acres next week and your always welcome to store your mclaren next to 1986 #49 in my garage (you could call intercity to ship it up!). I'm fine with it being in there for years if need be :)

I'll probably build a nice 4 car garage next to the property in the coming years to have more classic car storage, but for now the 2 car garage on the house is strictly a mclaren zone for #49 and any of her friends.

'Ya, me too, best of luck. Not only a big move, a big change in lifestyle, I would think. Your kind offer is appreciaed, but, it's a litle too far for me to consider. I would never get to see "her". But, the thought is appreciated. Is your property zoned as a FARM? If so, I do believe that GRUNDY CLASSIC CAR INSURANCE (who does recognize asc/McLarens as Special Interested vehicles, has lower special rates, if your living site is zoned as a farm.
You might consider raising tomatoes and selling them at a Farmer's maerket :)
